Beating Intolerable Odds (Hali)

Donovin neglected to say anything as he prepared the shuttle to make the jump into hyperspace.

He was not quite sure of what to say to the woman, having felt that he had over stepped his bounds, without meaning to. He was glad to know that Hali understood, but still, there really was no getting over it.

The private words Hali had let Cole read, for some reason, Donovin could not bring himself to respond. She'd stumped him, really, allowing him to wonder if he was meant to respond in kind, or not.

The shuttle made its jump, Donovin finally bringing his lips to move again to speak.

"It'll be some time before we reach our destination, maybe you should get some rest.."

As the shuttle streaked into hyperspace Hali pondered Cole, hoping he was okay, the two seemed to be in an uneasy silence, silence only broken when her mentor spoke.

She sat silent for a few moments, pondering a thought.

"Alright, I suppose I could." She told him, and as she turned to face him, she met him with a warm unassuming smile.

"Let me know when we get there." She said quietly.

She stood up to head toward the back of the shuttle, and as she left the cockpit, she froze, she had terrible feelings about this mission still, and it was feelings that did not seem to want to leave the young Jedi alone.

She turned around, about to speak out to Cole but she stopped suddenly as her right hand stopped short of reaching out toward the cockpit about to go back. What if her feelings were wrong? If there was any danger she felt Cole could sense it no doubt.

She pressed her palms together in front of her waist in puzzlement, wondering about what course of action to take. She looked back toward the cabin where her bed awaited, and then toward the cockpit again.

She had the up most trust in her master however, and knew that if there was any danger, he could see them through it.

She turned toward the cabin in the back of the shuttle walking slowly but her gaze still looked toward the cockpit.

She was concerned, not only for herself, but even more so for Cole.

She then made it to the back and climbed into her bed.

Hoping she was wrong...

Donovin did not stop what he was doing to turn around to respond to Hali's lingering form, despite sensing her still close behind him.

He knew the woman was troubled and he had made no effort whatsoever to console her.

He could not bring himself to take such action.. not without feeling awkward, anyway.

He knew the reasons why he held back, but he was to busy built on being stubborn, not to mention ignorant.

Eventually Donovin's conscience nagged at him enough to the point where he could no longer sit still and ignore Hali's own fears.

Making sure the shuttle was set on autopilot, Cole headed for the back of the shuttle. The Jedi seemed eager to get to Hali, almost too eager, catching himself amongst his fast paced movements; Donovin fell into a slow yet subtle walk.

Reaching the back room, the private blind already closed, blocking passage to the back of the small room, Cole listened to see if the woman had fallen asleep.

To Donovin's surprise, his ear’s caught the sound of Hali's playful laughter.

It was strange, but there was something about that laugh of Hali's that made Donovin intoxicated. So intoxicated that he was not aware of his own form pushing its way, rather forcefully, into the curtain.

Before he knew what was happening, Donovin found himself stumbling into the room only to have Hali quickly arise from her slumber, alarming wide eyes looking down upon him.

Donovin in turn looked up at Hali from his fallen place upon the ground, face slightly contorted in embarrassment.

"... I... I... I.. uh... um... I was just.. uh.. "

With a wispful swish the curtain came open awakening Hali, who reeled backwards in her bed as Cole came tumbling in.

Stunned eyes met Cole as he lay on the ground, as the man looked for the right words to say, puzzlement filled the lady as Cole tried to speak.

"What are you doing in here?!?!" Hali asked frantically.

Her green eyes quickly filled with concern however.

"Are you alright?" she paused "What's wrong?"

After a few moments to take in the scene that was before her, she sat up; neatly crossing her legs under her she faced her master, pushing her hair behind her right ear she sighed.

"I'm troubled Master." Hali said quietly, her eyes peacefully looking at Cole for answers.

"I. uh.. Just kind of.. fell in?!"

His facial expression became somewhat distorted and muddled while turning slightly red.

Hali could not see it, but two of the man's fingers of the man's left hand were crossed behind his back; in a gesture of odd plea, hoping the woman would forgive him.

Then within an instant, relief fell over Donovin inwardly, but only briefly, glad for the awkward moment’s passing.

Concern replaced his panic.

She had answered in unison to his statement.

"I was.. wondering if you were okay.."

"Oh.. Is it the mission?.."

He paused to search her green eyes, his blue eyes studying her carefully.

".. It is.. Isn't it?"

Hali paused in thought, resting her arms in front of her.

"It is Master...ever since before we left Naboo, these negative feelings, have played on my mind."

She looked at Cole puzzled and confused.

"I have feelings...something bad is going to happen on this mission."

She paused in thought.

"I have no clue if my feelings are clear, and I'm puzzled and confused."
