Joren did not turn as Jan entered the room. Nor did he when Kamon entered a moment later.
"Sir," A voice said quietly from the low-volume comlink.
"Go ahead, Commander." He said, his voice low.
"We have secured the spice mines, the muster room, and the individual transports. It is all pretty much abandoned since the Smugglers Alliance cleared out during the Yuuzhan Vong war. We have captured a few people who decided to put up a fight, mostly bounty hunters, mercenaries and the like, we will have secured the area soon."
"Good. The personel from the Engineering Corps will be here in a few days, they will set up the garrison and hangars. Make sure there is enough of the atmosphere factories working." Joren said quietly.
"Yes sir. I have sent special forces teams to secure all of the atmosphere factories. They should report in within the hour. I will keep you updated."
"Good.
Pride of Calamari out."
He looked out at the stars and the grey-black planet of Kessel, his hands clasped behind his back. He waited untill Jan had signed the document, before turning around to look at everyone gathered in the conference room onboard the
Pride of Calamari.
"We are all here. I am afraid there are those in the Mon Calamari Senate who do not want this merger to take place. Very recently, I was attacked by three assassins on Kessel."
He paused, before casting a glance at Admirak Amer, who stood near the door.
"So many wish to step in the way of a good cause. It is sad."
He glanced at Natalie before continuing.
"In a galaxy of turmoil, only the most illogical things makes sense." He quoted.
"As this new force, it is our duty to spread justice, and order throughout our territories. While this Coalition has been primarily a military alliance, today we sign the documents which will extend this to econimic, political, and humanitarian initiatives, as well as military. We can succeed, and we can now have hope."
With a slight smile on his face, he leaned down and signed his name next to Regrad's, and Dondana's. It felt strange, he noted. It was as if one burden had been liften from him, and another settled down in it's place.
He stood up, the smile still on his face. He heard the applause as if standing a long way off, he felt happiness, but then the grim reality settled in. They were a far way off from their ultimate goal: facing the dark side.
Mon Calamari
A white and blue star, the insignia of the newly established Galactic Coalition faded out, to be replaced by the image of a young human woman.
The woman settled her papers in front of her, and set them down.
"Today, the long fractured Coalition of Lightside Factions announced their official merger this afternoon. All political, military, and economic support funds will be channeled into a single group. This merger came as a complete surprise to some, but it is generally being accepted by the populace of Coalition-held worlds."
She paused to glance down at her notes before continuing.
"It is rumored, that the Mon Calamari Republic's own Chief of State Joren Arden spearheaded this new action, aided by leaders of the New Rebellion and the Azgaurdian Galactic Military. We will bring you more updates on this as we receive the information.
"The newly promoted Fleet Admiral Joren Arden held a press conference earlier today."
The image of the news anchor faded out. A busy and crowded press room replaced her image, Joren Arden, dressed in the blue and white admiral's uniform, stood at the podium at the center of the room.
"...Admiral Arden, is it true the idea for this merge came from you?" A reporter asked.
Joren shook his head, "It came from multiple sources. But in my capacity as Chief of State, I was in charge of organizing the meeting." He replied.
"Did you agree with the decision for the three governments to combine?"
"Absolutely." He said.
"Admiral, is there anything you have to say for the Imperial and Coalition viewers?"
Joren leaned forward slightly, "Yes. To all the former citizens of the Azgaurdian Galactic Military, the New Rebellion, and the Mon Calamari Republic, you have my personal assurance as Supreme Commander of the Coalition Navy, that I will do everything in my power to keep you homes, lands, and lives safe. Be afraid no longer.
"To all the Imperial viewers, and the leaders of the Empire, know this: We will no longer stand by idily why you, your Star Destroyers, and your Stormtroopers muscle us around. You will no longer take our homes, or our lives at your will. We are no longer weak, fractured, or insignificant. You will know that we are no longer the prey. We are the hunters."
He paused, and a warm smile formed on his face.
"We are coming."
The image of the smiling Fleet Admiral faded out, to be replaced by the reporter.
"...in other news..."
