The side of a mountain began to briefly shimmer, and two Ares-class Heavy Tanks rumbled out from the concealed base. At twenty meters long, the heavy tanks were the largest tanks fielded by the Confederate armed forces. Lieutenant Revere, commander of the lead tank, glanced around at the various flatscreens and the single holo-projector of the vehicle. Flatscreens showed various data, like the tanks abysmal 30 Kph cruising speed, the amount of energy stored up in the multiple, self-recharging powercells that powered the tank, and the various data collected by the tanks multiple sensors. The single holoprojector showed the terrain surrounding the tank by composite picture formed from not only the tank’s sensors, but those of the Mark IV Drones which hovered directly forward and on either side of the tank. Voice rang up from the chassis below.
“Lieutenant,” stated the driver, “I’m seeing a gap up ahead. What do we have data on it?”
Revere tapped several buttons, bringing up the Novaless Sona-optics Targetting Imager, perhaps the most useful, Confederation specific sensor. The sensor used ultra-sonic beam emitters to form composite pictures of things within the immediate area. Because sonic waves bounced off of each type of material differently, it could figure out that they were metallic mines within the soil below or that there was a vehicle of some sort hidden behind the foliage. But now, Revere used it for something simple.
“It’s roughly 3 meters deep and 2 meters wide. Probably on old infantry trench,” stated the tank’s commander dryly.
“Affirmative.”
The heavy tank began to cross over the obstacle, each of its four independent tracks allowing it negotiate the obstacle, prompting dust and dirt to swirl up in the air: the only signs of the tank’s presence. Each armored plate on the tank, from the suspension covers to the upper turret plating contained photoreactive fibres similar to those found on camou scout armor used by Confederate troopers. This active camouflage allowed the tank to seamlessly blend in with its surroundings, whether it be in the heart of city or in the tundra wilderness of Hoth; very much like chameleon. Dust and dirt kicked up in front of this tank in a giant cyclone.
Revere silently swore. We’ve been spotted. Active camou may be good for if we weren’t moving, but the dust and what not we’re kicking up as we move gives our position away. No use in not having the energy shields up now since we’ve been spotted now. Though the new energy signal may make us a little easier to target. He thumbed his comm..
“Two, any idea what’s going after us?”
The other tank’s commander quickly responded. “Yeah, my scout has found an AT-TE. It’s just over that ledge. Must be hitting us with its projectile cannon.”
Another cloud of dust spirred up in front of them.
Revere growled. “Got an exact location?”
“Negative, they got lucky and shot my droid down with small arms.”
Revere nodded. “This is what we’re going to do. Run around in this area and saturate the area with plasma shells. My tank will move around the ledge, flank it, and take it out with a pair of Polemos.”
“Affirmative.”
Another shell from the walker fell down, smashing into Revere’s tank’s shields. He grunted. Some of it was absorbed by the weak particle shields (the ray shields were stronger) while the rest of it was stopped by a combination of the Ares’ thick armor and Non-energetic Reactive Armor. The tank relatively slowly began to turn around for the ledge. Two’s tank, in the meantime, had elevated its twin railguns, launching successive bluish, sparkling orbs over the horizon: general purpose shells. Each one violently exploded as it hit the ground, causing violent splash damage to its surroundings. As the AT-TE’s shells continued to fall down, the tanks missile pods fired off small rockets, most of which quickly intercepted the shells mid-flight, and detonated them. Under this cover of fire, One circled around the tree to face the droid-operated AT-TE. Before the walker’s crew could detect the intruder, One fired a pair of Polemos shells into the walker. The two shells slammed into the walker, their shaped charges easily boring through the armor and destroying the internal workings of the vehicles. Two’s plasma shells became more accurate with data provided by One, and within a minute, the AT-TE was nothing more than a smoldering pile of debris.
