So, what is everyone's thoughts on the issue of Illegal Immigration?

My thoughts are, that if those opposed to Bush's plan manage to outlaw every immigrant, including those that have lived in the U.S. for years, then we will have a civil war on our hands, cause no way in hell would those that have been here for years would just pack up and leave. Peacefully.

I'm not sure what the problem with illegal immigration is. Granted I'm a Canadian and its a much smaller problem.

Like are you worried that there's a secret mexican plot to take over the US?

Most illegal immigrants pay their taxes and they take jobs that the average american wouldn't be willing to take because they don't offer medical and all those fun perks that people demand no matter what their education level or job is. That's why there are so many companies outsourcing(sp?). Even if you pay the same wages its cheaper because not everybody demands medical and pension and dental and massages and breaks to go pet their dogs and free sex change operations. The only people who are affected are the people who didn't graduate from high school. In which case go to your local continuing education center or night school or whatever and not only will you be able to get a job, it will pay better too.

Yeah, right. Smaller, in that, we have a smaller total population. It's not smaller measured per capita, at least, not signifigantly.

As to the theme of the topic; no way can I see a bunch of Americans, at least enough to incite a Civil War, going to bat for a bunch of foreigners who, frankly, don't appreciate what America did in wwII enough...

That last bit was for me.

Well, from my point of view these new issues are similar to those that started the first American Civil War. The first war was fought over the issues of black people and whether or not to make them a free people or keep them enslaved forever. This issue would be to whether or not to kick out illegal immigrants or make them U.S. citizens.

I think we should make them U.S. citizens, but if the other people get their way and try to kick them all out, then they won't go quietly. Enough Americans in the right area could be pissed off to supply these angry people with weapons and whatnot. Even if only 10% of those immigrants fight, that's an army of 1.2 million, something to be reckoned with.

Illegal Immigration really doesn't affect me since I live in a Northern area of the US with next to zero illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigration is the most controversial with the south border states. In some areas, the illegal immigrant population is quite sizable. It's enough of a "problem" to some southerners that there are actually militias formed and dedicated to catching immigrants trying to make it over the border.

But those efforts have been nonvolient and usually involve the police and/or customs and/or border patrol. Personally, I don't think it will get violent at in its current state. However, I do think we should tighten up the borders simply because law and order should be maintained.

There's a big difference between regulating who comes into the country from now on, and systematically routing every illegal immigrant and forcing them out of this country. It really shouldn't be that much of a big freaking deal. As long as we don't have swat teams raiding houses for immigrants.

A civil war might be cool though. Hawaii and Alaska can form a new country of their own.
