I just bought 2001: A Space Odyssey on DVD, and its been a film I've been meaning to get for ages.

Seen it countless times.

I have to say its probably one of my favourite Sci-Fi Films ever, I do like it more than any of the SW films.

If any of you haven't seen it, do so as it rocks.

This thread is a little random , but I wondered what other sci-fi films people like and can recommend.

I don't know man. It felt like 2 hours of the film was devoted to apes sitting around staring at each other until one got the bright idea to club something with a bone (of course, I was pretty young when I saw it).

I guess there is a certain elegance to 2001. But I preferred 2010 more.

lol, 2 hours?

Come now, surely thou jest!? :P

You mean you haven't seen it since?

Actually it surprises me you don't like it.

Theres so many cool scenes though, I love the scene when Dr Floyd travels to the Space station and its all done to Strauss's Blue Danube.

Oh and HAL, he manages to get you to feel both sympathetic and yet disturbed all at once.

I think its a classy film.

Kubrick rules.

Well here in England the copy I picked up today says: "U" (Universal for all).

I don't know where you're from but you should be able to pick it up with minimal fuss.

:O I've just noticed it was made in 1968!!! I thought it was filmed in the seventies...never knew it was that old...whoa!

Still, aged pretty good IMO.

*wonders if Omnae saw it the first time around*

If you are interested in a truly disturbing film, I recommend Metropolis. It was made in germany in the 20s and presents the view of the time the year 2000 (I think). The film is in black and white but is quite advanced for its time.

I throw in my lot and say I enjoyed 2010 more than 2001 but only slightly.

And, as one can tell from viewing my avatar, I enjoyed the movie Starship Troopers. It was extremely gory but I truly liked the Intelligence uniforms. Also, it represents a quite ordered and well-kept society - the quilty executed, citizens having earned their social status et al. (There are quite a few wrongs, obviously, but I digress...)

The ships are also interesting and the basis for my Curiassier-class Cruiser.

The movie with the Triple X star was good simply because I do enjoy watching Vin Diesel. Heh heh. The movie itself had excellent effects but a thin plot - -however, Vin Diesel had his shift off which makes up for any lapse in plot.

STARSHIP TROOPERS.

You know how long I've been trying to figure out where that picture was from.

I thought that was a troopers avatar. I liked the first film but the second one just ruined it for me, along with the CG series they did.
