Well, even though it's been altered countless times, the Bible is still the oldest history book to survive to modern times. The only thing that compares are the Egyptian Hieroglyphics in the Pyramids, and while they wouldn't have been altered buried under the sand like that, they are still extremley hard to translate.

Myths come from legends, and legends once were truths. Yes, it is true that stories were once handed down generation by generation through mouth, that does not mean that it is fictitious.

Stone carvings have been found, showing El and his consort Asherah. That's literally what the caption on the carving says. El was not originally the same as Yahweh; he was the head god and Yahweh was one of many subordinate gods.

I'll believe that over something that says a donkey can talk.
