I played the single player through a few times and thought "meh." My brother was over yesterday though, so we played split-screen co-op a couple times through, and that was a lot more fun. For one, it split the screen vertically. Vertical split on a wide screen is way, way better than horizontal.

Yeah, it's designed for co-op. We're going to rent it some weekend and play the whole thing through together. It's a game I could see spending $30 on.

Cool.

Can you decide which character you want to be and all that jazz? Do you run out of ammo quickly? Is it a shooting fest? More of a thriller? Team work required or don't bother kind of thing? Etc, etc.

In split-screen co-op the system automatically assigned us to characters, sadly.

The ammo system is pretty well calculated. You start to worry about whether or not you're going to have to go to the pistols just a few moments before you find the next ammo dump or safe house.

It's both a shooting fest and a thriller, and less of a jumpy "gotcha" game. More strategy and teamwork. If you try go rambo you'll get killed inside fifteen seconds. There are zombies that will incapacitate a single player and require a second player or team-mate to take them out before you can return to play. It's not really annoying, as for the most part it's easily avoidable by staying with the team. The AI players are also more than competent during co-op, they regularily got more saves and headshots than either Caleb or myself.

As a co-op game I find it highly enjoyable. I'm looking forward to renting and playing it through. I'll make a purchase decision after the playthrough, based upon its replay-ability.

I finished the 2 levels on single player and it was pretty fun. I don't think it really matters if you can pick your character or not because they are the same... you can get all the same weapons and they don't have different skill sets or anything.

I never ran out of ammo, but I never went crazy with my shooting either, I'm naturally pretty conservative with my bullets due to playing a lots of FPSes.

Team work is definitely required in the sense that you need to stick together and heal/revive eachother. Like Titus said if you get seperated you can't handle a zombie rush by yourself.

I'd buy it if I didn't have so many other games I'm trying to get through.

Sounds decent.

I might wait until I can access Live, then give it a shot and play some games with online peeps.

I got it to try it, if only due to lack of anything else to play that's new. It's not too bad, though I think the real meat is when you're playing online with 3 other buddies.

I found you can select your characters (it's one of the options before starting the level), and we played through on the Mercy Hospital scenario. Mel went quite good, considering she doesn't play games too often, let alone FPS.

In the end, on the roof, our two NPCs ran off to get onto the chopper and left us fighting; this resulted in me being surrounded, Mel being taken out by a Tank zombie, and then my being killed by the same Tank zombie as I tried to help her up - she didn't tell me there was a large one downstairs, as I was covering the top prior.

So I started healing her, then got a fist to the face...

But yeah, can't wait to get some Live, though I have the feeling I won't be keeping this one (not at $99), because there isn't that much to it. Might be one to buy later on, when it's cheaper and I can actually use Live again.
