The so-called "Gangsta rap," is the kind I can't stand. Its the same stereotyped rap everyone who doesn't like rap, thinks rap is. Hip-hop and R&B are cool, mainly club musics.
We don't hold weekly burnings of the latest "Fiddy Cent" album, if that's what you mean. But the majority of our members aren't fans, I'd say. Largely because mainstream hip-hop is "look at me, I'm a gangsta and have more money than you ever will!". The music has some nice beats, but the terrible lyrics make it unlistenable. The videos are idiotic at best, and the songs themselves have zero depth. Examples: D12, "My Band". You have a band. You're rich. We get it. Terror Sqaud: "Lean Back". You're a big fat fuck. We get it!
IIRC, when we have "what are you listening to?" threads, the people who list rap, hip-hop, and pop are laughed at.
WTF is the big deal about Usher? His lyrics are unimaginative, his videos are lame, and his beats are tired and repetitive. Like most other rappers, he has no real talent. But somehow he gets air time and money out of it.
I mean, it's like anyone who simply speaks words to a beat instead of singing it automatically a famous rap superstar. In the real word, we would call them failed singers. Instead, they're making millions of dollars and talking about how they got shot when they were kids because they lived on the bad side of town.
