My comment was not close-minded towards his close-mindedness because as it has already been pointed out his particular phrasing suggested Michael Moore is automatically a lying evil leftist, probaby without even seeing the movie.
This is one movie if ever there was one that you cannot talk shit about unless you've seen it. I personally don't know how anyone could vote for George Bush in the upcoming election especially after seeing this film. Go ahead and say, well I'm sure there are people that can't see how you would vote for anyone BUT Bush so your point is nothing but opinion. FINE, if my opinion is that it is not cool to kill innocent children and assorted people without having a damn good reason.
Kas I don't exactly know what your position is on Bush but it's obvious that you have no love for Michael Moore and refuse to see this movie. I say it's people like you that SHOULD see this movie. Does being Christian mean that you HAVE to be Republican? OK so George Bush says that he's a Chrisitian, you're a Christian so you guys have something in common great. He doesn't believe in abortion you don't believe in abortion FANTASTIC sounds like a match made in heaven.
But what about the parts of the Bible that say it's wrong to kill? Doesn't that put a damper on the whole "going to war for no reason" thing? Killing people without a point does not present itself as a very Christian attribute, correct me if I'm wrong.
It's amazing that people would call Michael Moore un-American, granted I've never seen any of his other films and I've heard the same things about him as most of you have I'm sure. After seeing this film it's evident that Michael Moore is a Patriot, after all this is a nation built on the principle that the minority has a voice and that's what this film is about.
This movie isn't about taking quotes out of context or making anti-Republican assertions just to propel Michael Moore's propaganda. And anybody who says that most of the scenes portrayed in this movie are old news, is not watching the same American News that I am.
Don't trash the movie or what it brings to light unless you've seen it. And if even after that you disagree for any reason, do us all a favor and back up your claim.
I don't think he's done a very good job, and I think his entire reasoning for going to war with Iraq is incredibly stupid, even though I think the war in Iraq was needed and if continued through with, will result in a better middle east.
I dislike Moore because he isn't trustworthy. I have little enough money as it is, I won't spend my hard earned cash on a movie that shows what any idiot with a web-browser can find in ten seconds on Google.
I've read reviews of this movie, by both sides, and everyone agrees. Moore only covers old ground. Believe me, I've seen it all. I'm a regular on another forum that debates almost every political issue to come up - I've read hundreds of posts from both sides.
So you disagree with the idea that the entire war was begun in order to secure Iraq's vast oil deposits? Let me ask you this, then: why did America invade a country that posed no immediate threat to them, and lie about their reasons for doing so?
That entire statement is really rather contradictory. You say Moore isn't trustworthy... yet by saying that the facts he presents can be found on Google, you're admitting that he's right...
That being said, yes, "any idiot with a web-browser" can find most of what he reveals on Google. But they don't. There aren't very many Americans who care enough to research, for example, Bush's ties to Saudi Royals. It's all publically available (how else would Moore get it?), but people don't care enough to find out for themselves.
By putting the information out there the way he does, Moore ensurs that millions of people will learn, people that otherwise would never bother to find out on their own.
And perhaps, Kas, a very important fact in the movie (portrayed rather clearly) was that the Media is complacent and useless, and thus reviews on the movie from said media is obviously going to be slanted.
Michael Moore is not untrustworthy for a number of reasons, the big one being that he is in fact a patriot. He doesn't hate America, he isn't evil, if he was the last way he would have spent his life would be how he spent it, namely rabble-rousing through any outlet he could find for tuppence until people one day began to listen and realize he made sense. He really does believe that what he reveals is the corruption in Amercia (which it is) and that by revealing it he is helping America, and perhaps you feel what he has found is not corruption, but the point remains that he is seeking it nonetheless for patriotic reasons.
Exactly Demos that was a very good point, quite possibly all of the information he presented is available but most of it is not found on the news.
I'm assuming that was you Kas that replied to my post even though I don't recognize the name. To say that the war in Iraq was needed? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Well I'm sure all the parents of the children that died when Baghdad was bombed will agree. Hmm... my 3 year old got killed for no apparent reason but this war was surely needed.
It will make the Middle East a better place? What the fuck are you talking about? A better place for who? For the Iraqis getting killed on a daily basis? For the Americans getting kidnapped and decapitated? Completely stupid, I would have thought you'd place a higher value on human life.
