I dislike the NDP because I wouldn't trust them to run the economy of Nigeria let alone Canada.

I'm hoping for a conservative minority that will last like maybe a year. In that time Paul Martin gets canned and the liberal party gets a new leader. Conservatives wont do anything super radical because its a minority. Then the new liberal leader gets a majority, stephen harper gets canned peter mckay becomes the conservative leader and then both of the big parties(i.e. with a chance of actually becoming the governing party) will have a decent leader.

Why thank you.

In other news:

Take the world's smallest political quiz http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html.

It said I was a centrist and I got a score of 50 on Personal Issues and 20 on Economic. I'm a left leaning centrist person. Rather acurate actually. You'll be pleased to no Beff that the Libertarian Party is an option for your political leanings.

Shocking!

Libertarian. Strong Left Wing on economic and personal issues.

Neat lil' test, if somewhat narrow in view and opinion. But considering the issues...

Yeah the only real problem with the test is that there's so few questions. But that's its main attraction point I guess, it doesn't take a few hours to fill out.

I always get Libertarian on all those tests. Appropriate, considering that's what I tend to vote.

Nothing to add to the origional topic. Not Canadian (close enough to almost be, though).

That stings.

In Canada, come the American Elections, we're made very aware of just what is going on down south. It bombards our media.

I fucking hate Stephen Harper. He's an idiot, and if he wins a majority he's going to fuck up our country big time.

Fortunately, this time around, he won't get a majority. What I am afraid of is that he will get a minority, and in another year we'll be faced with another election and he'll win a majority.

And then we're fucked. Royally. In the ass.

Because Harper is going to bend over and let George W. give it to him.

Now, I'm a fan of Paul Martin. Under his guidance we have posted surpluses for something like ten years running. We're the strongest economy in the G7. We are, in short, in pretty good fucking shape. Martin has also had the balls to say "fuck you" to the US on issues that I feel are important: namely, Missile Defence (and let's not forget it was Chretien that kept us out of Vietnam.... er, Iraq).

I also happen to agree with the most liberal values; I applaud Martin for making headway on gay marriage, for example. On that front, I believe universal acceptance is inevitable, and how stupid will we look if Harper reverses the legalization and in another fifty years we're the country that was "the third to do it, the first to reverse it, and the last to reintroduce it"?

*shrug*

I also think the Liberal party has a better platform: their national daycare idea might sound sketchy, but it's something - Harper's "solution" is to give $1200 a year to families. Guess how much daycare costs? Around $1200 per month.

Popcorn and beer money is right.

In spite of the polls, I believe that the Liberals actually do have the support of most Canadians. They're just in a very unfortunate position:

1) Adscam. It's still hurting them, which is unfortunate because a) corruption is inevitable. There will always be corrupt leaders, and compared to what goes on in other countries Adscam is relatively minor, and b) The liberals lost us $100 million. How much did they save Canada by posting surpluses instead of defecits for the last decade? How much have they saved us by not getting us involved in Iraq and 'Star Wars'?, and c) when talking about budgets in the tens of billions of dollars, $100 million is relatively minor.

2) And some very poor campaign choices; that "Soldiers with guns. In our Cities. In Canada." ad was a terrible lapse of judgement and hurt big time, I think, as did "popcorn and beer money".

But I think that Canadians by and large support Liberal VALUES, they just can't justify voting for a corrupt party (understandable, in spite of what I said above). Unfortunately, if the Conservatives win a minority, we'll probably only get to see the "good" things they do - they won't have the support from NDP/Liberals to invoke some of their nastier measures... so Canada will say, "Hey, they did an OK job!" and give them a majority... and then we can open the doors to America Jr.

Also unfortunate if Harper wins, Martin will no doubt be sacked as the leader of the Liberal party. And as I said, Martin has done a pretty good job, so that's a shame.

I took that quiz when I discovered it years ago, but I took it again just in case. I'm still a left leaning libratarian.
