1st or 3rd Person?

So I know that most people probably RP in 3rd person, but let's hear why you prefer it to 1st person. For those of you who RP in 1st person, let's hear why you prefer this style of writing compared to the other.

As for me, when I started RPing I RPed in 1st person, as it made it more personal. I kinda got sucked into 3rd person since most people on the other site I was on did, and I've found there are pros and cons to both. For 1st person, it seems I seem to use the word "I" a lot, even in books written this way don't use it as often. But in 3rd person I seem to try and describe too many things at once, and it gets confusing.

Now I think I'm switching back to 1st person, as I've read a few books and I can figure out how to describe everything more personally like I was there, and one (personally) can make the character develop a lot deeper, and tell easier what he/she thinks. Now, let's hear your side.

And don't let it turn into a flame war, please. :D

I play in both. I have one character I play exclusivly in first person, all the rest I keep in third unless the post needs first to convey a certain feeling.

Third person is the standard because it allows one to write in far more broad strokes concerning the actions of a great many people. In first person you're stuck with what that person sees and feels.

I had tried to devloppate a second person style of roleplay being basically my carachter's story seen trough the eyes of a witness. It was intentionned to be always different since witnesses vary from one to another.

I however mostly roleplay in thrid person right now

For me it really depends on what the story is about.

I never roleplay in first person when it come's to Star Wars, but for other type's of story's I usually do.

Third Person is better because you can put in stuff in details; however first person is even better because you can detail what the person is seeing from they're point of view.

Long the lines of Titus, I RP mostly in third; this allows others to read and reply easier, whereas actions can be lost in first. Honestly I think first isn't the best for an RPing medium, so I tend to keep to third.

When needed, then I can use first, though personally I prefer to keep to what I've known since I began Role-Play.

I have tired it but found to be no good at first person. I use the omniscient author style of writing and for a scale of command as large as the Empire, it is unfeasible.

At first I wanted to RP in first person, but on the first board I was apart of it wasn't allowed so I couldn't. Then I got used to the third person and have since used the third person.

I try to use third person for most of the above reasons, but there are sometimes tendencies from the 1st person viewpoint that I like as well, so occasionally, I write my character's thoughts in italics.

I'm with Vance, more along the lines of it being painful for an RP medium. Why? Most try to write their threads as a flowing story. Each author adding to the individual tales. Ergo, constantly changing between 1st person perspectives causes it to get clunky IMHO.

But for my personal stories (which have become non-existent as of now), I occasionally do write in 1st person depending on the tale.
