But the rules don't limit us from taking the planets, simply having them added to the list. Which means that we can still be "growing exponentially", it's simply not being counted. I see the purpose of the rule, I simply don't think that the rule accomplishes what it is meant to.
Whether you add six planets today, or over the course of six weeks, we still attain those six planets. And in the interim, we'll probably attain more. It's a stupid rule because it doesn't make sense, not a stupid idea.
Saying "Yes, you're takeover is good, completely within the rules... but we're not adding it to the list for a week" doesn't make sense. We already own the planet. If it's attacked, it's an attack on TNO. Our ownership simply isn't recognized by this list.
And contrary to what you say, most of TNO's planetarty takeovers take significantly longer than a week. I can think of only a couple exmaples that were complete in six days...
No, not it cant. Simply becuase only one planet can be added for every 6 days. If you cant stop fucking that planet sized monkey, then save your roleplays and post them up when youll get credit for them instead of trying to climax prematurely.
Correct. The planet is still yours and you still defend it if it's attacked, but until it's on the planet list it isn't legally recognized as yours and thus doesn't support shipyards or meterage.
Right. And that means it effectivly controls expansion. One planet every six days is prefferable to a well-planned scheme to capture a load of planets all at the same time and use the sudden boost in power to crush your enemies before they have the time to react.
Correct. The fastest rate anyone can take planets is 1 planet every 6 days.
However, the 6 days is not dependent on a staffer actually adding them to a manifest. ie: Kraken asked for his planet to be placed on 7-29. Chau asked for his planet to be added on 8/13... obviously 6 days difference so any additional planet to be put on the manifest could not be added (at least) until 6 days past 8/13.
I does not matter when the staffer puts the planets up. It only matters when the threads end and requests are made.
With dual planetary takeovers in one thread... Some have waited until the thread has finished before claiming planets... some have claimed a planet during a roleplay.
Now if your group has only one takeover going.... and you roleplay 10,000 words for 2 planets in 12+ days... And you ask for two planets to be added to manifest, I do not think the staff would mind because you still meet the 6 OOC days rule per planetary takeover.
Where it gets hairy is if other members also have takeovers going and they complete and ask for their planets too... then ALL the Group's takeovers must be separated by 6 OOC days.
This is nothing new.
And yes, it is to ensure the rate of expansion does not get too out of hand.
So I went back to the old board and went into the rules page there:
So, as you see, it's not from the point of thread completion, it's only that you must stretch the thread over a six day period, from beginning, to completion, until you can claim it.
Kraken, that's not what we're talking about. The rule under discussion is the one that states that a group may only "claim" one planet per six days.
Ahnk, that does make more sense. I had figured that groups would say to themselves, "Hell, we have the planet, it'll be added in a week, why not build with those meters."
If that is, as you say, strictly illegal, then the rule makes more sense. I'm still not a big fan of having a planet that can be attacked but can't be used for production, but I do admit the rule has a good hand in controlling expansion (or would, I'm not sure it's been followed 100%).
I was going to ask about that... I know that others, as well as myself, have taken two or more planets in one thread, and at one point I was actually told "Wait until the story finishes, and we'll add all three."
So how does the rule treat a multiple-takeover thread? Should the planets be requested as added at 5000 word intervals? Or should they simply be put up as one request, as long as the thread has spanned the required number of days?
Also, is this a first come/first served basis? For example, if Kraken comes with a takeover that started two days after mine, and we request their addition on the same day, how would that be dealt with?
Just some clarification, if you'd all be so kind...
