The public hath spoken for their current favorite threads. Before they are put in the spotlight, perhaps we can have the people who are posting in the threads give their opinion about the story within:

1. What gave you the ideas for the plotlines you write?

2. How did the thread idea develop in the first place?

3. Would you like to give any other comments that perhaps you don't get the opportunity to say about your part in the story.

4. For those of you who are not in any of the threads, what is it that captured your interest (if any)?

The comments will go under the Showcased RP and then placed on the Home Page Portal.

So... those participants, put which roleplay you are a part of at the beginning of your post.

Visionary Interlude: A friendly Game

Unity: Bane of the Empire

Visionary Episode Three: Dance to the Drums of War

Ascendancy

The Breaking, Volume One

Ghost Ship

Now I would like to do this at least once a month and hopefully I can stick to it (unlike my failed Pick of the Week thingy). So, until February, keep writing and keep those roleplays coming.

Friendly Game:

This was, quite frankly, Dolash's idea. Sort of an "out of time" debate between Kaine and Regrad. At first, I had put forth the idea that the rp correspond to an actual chess game between Dolash and myself which would have been interesting though impractical. Still, I wonder what would have happened if we had done that and Dolash beat me? heh.

I don't know what possessed Dolash to come up with this idea but it's interesting to flesh out character motives and blur the lines of what they truly believe and what they'll lie for.

Credit all goes to Dolash for this one.

Unity: Bane of the Empire

Union mischief. Still, Brutus is one of those roleplayers who'll scheme farther than most. You never know where the knife will end up. My interest in this thread is to find out just what he's up too and where it will fit in the grand scheme of things.

So I can crush it! mwah! (as Beff would say)

:glance

Ascendancy

The brainchild of Lupercus, Seth Vinda and Zark Ekan, this roleplay builds on what VC and Capricia are doing in Genesis I. I roleplayed Kaine meeting with Hapans once and I like the differences between both meetings. One little thing I did was play the same house staff from the TNO/Hapan thread again in this one. I like the little consistencies. This rp will also link Zark's people of Helix and the Capricians which will get a nod in the new Origins thread and in Zark's Beachhead thread. I don't think I've evern roleplayed with Zark before so that's a plus! This is going to be the foundation to alot of great future roleplays.

The Breaking

What can I say? Ahnk is the man! If there is one person who's stuff I will always read, it's Ahnk's. He's got a talent that makes you stand up and actually care about what's happening to his characters. And his dialogue? I keep thinking I am writing teletubby dialogue compared to his.

This has epic written all over it.

Ghost Ship

Heh. This idea actually started from reading an R&D feature that had never been used. I didn't expect this rp to actually be a hit, just a little side rp that was ..well "different".

Kas and Ren were doing art to go along with this but I let them down when I stopped adding to the rp. Sorry guys! But I will finish this one eventually.

Visionary Episode Three

Need to Read.

1. What gave you the ideas for the plotlines you write?

Oh god, I've stolen from so many places it's hard to make a list. I'm amazed nobody has sued yet. I guess my being poor and largely unsuccessful in my fraud helps a bit.

The Breaking is an attempt to flesh out Kal Shora. We saw two sides in Legacies... the man who knows what he must do, and he who questions why. I hope that the Breaking is going to help turn those two sides into one by following through on how he became who he is and how he will become who he is to be.

It's also a transition of power. But those who don't know can read on.

2. How did the thread idea develop in the first place?

I began writing it before I finished Legacies with Dolash. I knew I had some holes to fill and some depth to create so I began to work on how I would go about it. It's really just a profile of Kal Shora and the decisions he makes being put into action.

3. Would you like to give any other comments that perhaps you don't get the opportunity to say about your part in the story.

I just want to take a moment and thank everyone who has helped with the evolution of the Cree'Ar. Omnae, Zark, Gash, Sam, Dolash... anyone I've worked with or against, Seth, Taja, Kraken...

And if you think this thread is good, keep an eye on Beachead. That shit is off the hook.

4. For those of you who are not in any of the threads, what is it that captured your interest (if any)?

Visionary Interlude: A friendly Game

Awesome. Purely awesome. You combine TRF's best writer with probably the writer on board with the most potential to be amazing and the thread is nothing short of spectacular. Say what you will about Dolash, but he's a good writer, and at his age...

Unity: Bane of the Empire

Gue said it best. It's an excellent extension of the character. I love the Unity threads and I love that the Union really seems to be operating to it's MO.

Visionary Episode Three: Dance to the Drums of War

Say what you will about Dolash, but he has a great sense of timing.

Ascendancy

Has Seth Vinda ever been in a bad roleplay? Besides one of mine?

Ghost Ship

It's on my to read list.

Visionary Interlude

I'm not too sure how I came up with this one. Now that I think about it, it's kind of like that chess-playing scene from the X-men movie, at the end. It just sort of came about. A while ago, I talked about how TRF doesn't have any grand strategists, like in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, who match wits using every weapon in the world, and I thought perhaps a chess-game between Regrad and Simon might perhaps create the image of two men in whose hands the galaxy may well rest. Plus, in the future, it could be used as foreshadowing - maybe Regrad will start replaying the chess game in his tower, trying out new strategies before key operations?

I would like to say that it is really, really hard to argue with Simon - because Omnae, the writer, is someone who I greatly trust and think is excellent and has a great sense of the truth of every situation, and he uses that exact logical, sensible tone when writing as Simon on the topic of Empire. I almost want to believe everything Simon says by default, as evidenced by Regrad's drop in spirits.

Unity: Bane of the Empire

I have a tonne and a half of respect for the union's roleplayers - they do something new, innovative, and isn't tied down to the ole' fleeting and planets game. They might use them, sure, but they're a real creative bunch, and its' threads like these that really stand out at TRF.

Visionary Episode Three: dance to the drums of war

I really went into the last war half-assed and completely unprepared for what a war would be like. This time I wanted to be at 100% ass, not settling for any mere half-ass, so I thought the best way to do that was to have a thread that would segue the Coalition at Peace into the Coalition at War. It serves to explain just how the shift frome one to the other took place, and what that means. Heir jumping in there without asking was a bit of a shock, but it went smoothly, so I'm happy.

I would like to say that a great deal of the actual tactical stuff mentioned (of which there is little) is completely wrong. The Jedi aren't really coming, a number of the ships we planned to use are unavailable, a lot of what I thought I knew about the Black Dragons is wrong - enjoy it, if you read it, but don't actually use it as a source of info on how the war is progressing now. It's really true, no plan survives first contact with the enemy.

Ascendancy

Ahnk is right. Everything that Seth touches turns to gold. And chocolate. This is because long ago he found the hand of midas, that promised him everything he touched would turn gold, and he said "f*ck that, I get chocolate too, or I go home." And he got it. Because he is Seth.

In a more serious light, I think it's an interesting read because it shows that even though Seth isn't conquering worlds or annihilating races every day, he's still working behind the scenes and making ripples that could one day turn into might tidal waves.

Ghost Ship

I hadn't heard of this until the showcase - which is a surprise, because Simon shares Seth's gold-and-chocolate power. I'm getting into it now, though, and finding it up to the usual professional standards of its' author. Haven't gotten to the end of the thread yet, but good stuff. It really goes to show that when you're the undisputed Master of the Galaxy, you can write about whatever you want, when you want it. If Simon decided tomorrow he wanted to write a story about the tomatoes of Azguard coming alive and devouring their Azguardian tenders, decimating the population forever, I would be honored that he remembered the tomatoes.

1. What gave you the ideas for the plotlines you write?

Like Ahnk, I feel like the cheapest bastard sometimes, as I blatantly copy plot elements from books, movies, and other media. However, a lot of what I write derives from real-world events, particularly the GLF related stuff. In a way, the GLF is modeled loosely on Al Qeida... and I take inspiration for my cyber terrorism from the real thing (which I must admit is fairly disturbing).

The concept of the Union itself is an amalgamation of SPECTRE and another James Bond crime organization that exists only in some of the more recent Bond novels. We (Estro and I) tried to apply the methods and tactics of those two organizations to Star Wars- and we've evolved ever since.

2. How did the thread idea develop in the first place?

This thread (Unity: Bane of the Empire) drew inspiration from numerous sources. Griff was itching to get back at the Empire after they attacked Borelas, but as we all know, attacking the Empire is never a simple matter. So we decided that we could combine a Black Hand attack as a distraction to pull off another operation we had been planning for awhile. It's still not quite done, but that’s basically my fault- I need to get the action going again. This whole BDE war thing has slowed down its progress, but it will pick up again soon.

3. Would you like to give any other comments that perhaps you don't get the opportunity to say about your part in the story?

I love matching wits with Simon. Of all the threads I've taken part in, my all time favorite is[thread=4626] Chaos Theory: The Grain Offerings[/thread], because Simon caught me completely off-guard, and yet if you go back and read the thread carefully every twist and turn is carefully and subtly hinted at.

I relish every opportunity I get to write with him.
