Don't sleep near a river.

Too bad I didn't read this advice before I left. Not that I would have listened anyways. Anywho, as it turns out, we forgot to call before making the reservations to see what condition the campground was in, and as a result, when we got there, it was flooded, and flooded badly. The main roads, and most of the camp sites were the only things not under water. Our site had some mud, which was mostly covered by leaves. We had an okay time the first day, we went on a nature board walk that jutted out into upper myakka lake, of which a small section was under the current level of the lake, and required us taking off our shoes to cross. Then we went on the trail that lead to the canopy overviews. What that was, was two towers, one seven stories tall, the other fourteen, with a rickety suspension bridge connecting the two, with an excellent view of the second taller tower. Most of the trail there was under water, and was a fun walk, espically when we reached the last fifty yards or so, which was when we discovered, to our displeasure, that this portion of walkway was coated in old, painful gravel.

I will tell more when I get more time, but basically the second day we went to the beach, and when we got there, we saw a black smirk in the distance, approaching the beach shore. By the time we get on the beach, the smirk expands into a large severe storm system rapidly approaching shore. More to come......

Have fun. Don't burn. Don't stand in tornados. Don't get eaten by aligators. Or Bears. Have safe sex. use a condom. Don't drink and drive. Don't covet thy neighbours oxen...or something...

Other events:

The storm system developed a funnel cloud, and just before it became a waterspout, the damn rain came and obscured our view, as well as messing up my digital camera I had out at the time.

And back at the campground, I almost stepped on a nine-foot alligator that I didn't see until the last second. Also, because of the mosquitoes, and mugginess, we couldn't sleep Tuesday night, so we went raccoon hunting. We almost ran over one raccoon, and spotted about ten more near the campsites, along with some opossums, and armadilloes. Also there was an annoyingly loud bullfrog, and all in all, we couldn't go to sleep until about 2AM, when a cool breeze lowered the temperature noticeably.

More to come.....
