*shrugs* I've had the desire just to create a 'Raioballo Republic' because of Irtar's desire to have his home free from the grip of the Empire. Or at least so I threaten the Empire with to make them... fear? (And if anyone actually does fear Irtar, the most unsuccessful Jedi/Pilot/Thing then I pity them)

Brief history of the New Republic (you'll learn more reading up on TNO).

TNR was the major lightside faction, as was said, in 2002... they had Gash and Hex, both of whom where amongst the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, and who were really really active and stuff. TNO and TNR fought a bit, and then TNR slid into relative obscurity... I think because Hex left and Gash went off and formed the Rogue Jedi Order, so he was busy there, leaving TNR without any real fleeters... and without fleeters attacking TNR would have been stupid, so it sat stagnant.

This went on for a while, until late 2003 when TRF decided on a fleet restart. I went off and joined TNR, which was officially owned at this point by Kanbal Stian, but he was busy with his Empress Teta stuff and ignored TNR, so it was just me.

Anyway, as we closed in on the fleet restart TNO attacked TNR through a couple fronts... during this time they took Coruscant (but TNR had moved its capital to Corellia anyway), and invaded Corellia.

IC, Hiram Drayson (father of Bhindi Drayson) seized the office of Supreme Military Chancellor and took command of what fleet elements he could... OOC, Organa Solo showed up and started claiming lordship over TNR (hence the IC explanation... it was supposed to be that Drayson was given power, but whatever. It's a more interesting story this way, anyway).

So within the Republic we now have a splintering: those elements loyal to Drayson join him and are largely defeated at Corellia, being outnumbered. The NR government is driven from the planet, but TNO doesn't take it... at this point the New Empire is rising and the Empire has more important things to worry about (and at any rate, Corellia has been broken and is no threat).

So a large chunk of the NR fleet is lost, and its government is in shambles. Those surviving ships join the Empire at a huge showdown at Bastion to defeat the New Empire. They succeed, though at great cost, but the action is the final deat knell of the Republic. It collapses, and following Wrath TNO takes Corellia and wipes the last vestige of the NR from the galaxy.

We have a "New Rebellion", but it's largely (and unfortunately) dead... a proper Rebellion group would make for some really cool RPs, if anyone is ever interested in starting one.

One of the things that irks me is when people try to form/support lightside groups then abandon them or otherwise let them fail, since that discredits it. There can never again be any Republic or Rebellion in this galaxy, ever. It's way too easy to compare it to the failures of past attempts. Even the word "Coalition" is pretty damn close, and we get a lot of flack for that propaganda-wise.

So yeah, don't start a galactic Republic or Rebellion unless you're willing to keep it going, please, since if you do and it dies then it can be used against the rest of us.

A major reason being that RPing a "dark sider" is more fun... look at the number of people who have tried both. Myself and Gash come to mind immediatly, and I'm sure everyone else has had a lightsider at one time or another.

*shrug*

I would be willing to hlep out with a NR if I wasn't part of TNO. There could be some great storylines there. But such is life...

(Maybe if someone else takes the initative to run one I'll write a bit, though ;))

I had a darkside group a long time ago but it was kind of lightside leaning because of its alliance with the Mon Calamari Republic. So then it got pummelled by TNO.

But as everyone has said, making a new New Republic might not be the best idea, just because of its past history at TRF. The entire lightside image here has been tainted, but most especially the image of any kind of Republic, be it the Mon Calamari Republic or New Republic or whatever.

I started the first New Republic (on TGC, that is).

Nobody ever seems to care whenever I say that, though. So I've stopped mentioning it.
