I'm 80% sure it's just liscensed.

The main difference is that when you own it, you can remove this.

We didn't mind it. If someone sees our board and is inspired to go buy a vBB, it's a compliment on us and business for vB. Works both ways.

so its leased? but dont you have to renew the lease every year ($120) ?

I checked vbulletin and I couldnt seem to understand how they work. You get your own domain and a board that has no limits?

I believe we got the board software for free and a two year liscense for $30.

But I'm not sure.

It's an owned license. Ceros had purchased a copy a while ago for an RP'ing forum he was setting up, but apparently that bombed. Last year when I brought up the topic of moving off of ezboard he offered to let us use it.

So we renewed access to the vB Member area for thirty dollars, downloaded the newest version of vB and started going.

Removing the copyright on the bottom would require a separate $120 charge, IIRC.

When you buy vB, you get it for an unlimited amount of time, and you get access to the member area for a year. When you lease vB you get it for a year, then you have to renew to continue to use it. We are a purchased license, it's ours for as long as we want it. Hosting and a Doman Name are separate purchases that you have to do yourself.

Hopefully that answers your question..

So all together; how much would it cost to do something like what you guys have done? including the domain, ownership, and other crap. If im calculating correctly, its somewhere around 500 bucks.

About three hundred, give or take some. More if you want to remove the copyright, which we have not done.

Wasn't it getting up to be $150 or more to buy Gold for six months on ezboard anyway?

No, hundred and fifty for a year. The startup cost for this is higher, but if we don't suddenly grow like jack's beanstalk we'll stay pretty low.

No way! This board is using the liscense Hex had for that old board with Ming? Am I thinking of the same place? The place that only like 6 people ever posted at?
