Man, being a newbie sucks, don't it? I suppose we all have to start somewhere, but it'd be nice if it weren't always the bottom of the heap.
Anyway, I'm Daniel Haughton. I'm a 32 year old from Mississippi with a thing for sci-fi, role-playing, and the internet. Thus, my inevitable arrival here.
Okay, a little trivia about me... I'm a huge music fan. Basically, if it doesn't make me want to claw my own ears off, I'll listen to it. Some music, of course, gets my attention more than others. Rush, Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden have been my top three favorites for years now. My latest musical interest is a Boston-based duo called The Dresden Dolls. Their style can best be described as 'punk cabaret', if you can imagine that.
I like animals more than people most days. I have two pets (or do they have me?), a big gray and white tomcat named Mr. Leviathan (Levi for short) and a pomeranian named Chewbacca (Chewie for short, naturally).
I've been playing RPGs since my 9th birthday party. We went through the original Castle Ravenloft adventure and as I recall, I died three times that night. They kept resurrected me, not because I was the Birthday Boy, but because I was playing a Barbarian and no one else had thought to make a fighter character. Apparently I made an excellent wall to cast spells from behind.
From those humble early beginnings I've branched out into dozens of different game systems. Palladium Books' Megaversal system is about the only one I still support today. I loathe D20 with an abiding passion. I consider it the Windows of RPGs. Fitting that they were both spawned in Seattle, eh? I'm a hardcore old-guard D6 Star Wars fan, but I recognize that the game had flaws and do enjoy poking fun at some of its more egregious errors from time to time (8 kilometer Executors, anyone?).
I prefer the original un-edited trilogy to the prequel travesty. Han shot first, Hayden Christensen is no David Prowse (to say nothing of James Earl Jones), and Jar-Jar makes me long for the days of subtle comedy like The Three Stooges or The Marx Brothers.
Similarly, I loathe everything about the New Jedi Order series. CHEWBACCA LIVES!!! End of story.
I am a member of the Star Wars Design Alliance, a forum website that seeks to create logical deckplans for small starships that gamers can use. I post there as Kayle Skolaris. I also post to the Star Wars RPG Network Holonet forums as Kayle Skolaris, though I haven't posted there in quite some time. 'Kayle Skolaris' is the name of an old character of mine who is quite simply too powerful to play anymore. That's the main reason I'm not playing him here. Besides, he's a force user (Jedi turned Dark Jedi turned Jedi turned Dark Jedi turned Gray Jedi if you can follow that) and I've read your rules regarding force users.
Anyway, down to the character I AM playing... Drake Cromwell. Who is this fellow? Well, I'm not quite certain yet. The name is an old one I've used for other characters before, but in context here, I haven't really hit upon who he is yet. I have a vague idea of who he might be, but that's going to require role-playing, story-telling, and months of training with a force school to fully realize. To be clear, I do NOT want to play a Jedi or a Sith, but a member of a completely different force tradition. I will try to get a picture of him made, but no promises there. I'm still figuring out what he looks like!
Anyway, I'll shut up and wait for responses now. Hopefully I haven't made too big a fool of myself in my initial post.
