There is a possible conflict here. Not that I am suggesting any changes, just a point of clarification. Have your forces arrived contrary to the hyperlane terminus? It was my postulation that the Remorans, following the route, would have their ships outside the system in the proximity of the lane. It follows that your forces would arrive along the same trajectory and, that being the case; likely not only would the Gestalt forces note your arrival, so would the Remorans and, in turn, your forces would likely note their position as well.
Just as a point of clarification; your thoughts/intentions?
Om & Corise:
I have my mother-in-law (so to speak) over for the weekend and as such probably won't get a chance to post before Monday. As such, regarding our subplot and as I have input which I need to... put in... before either of you advances our story-line any further, can you both hold off on posting anything further which may be pertinant to the goings on in and around the Gestalt system until I get a chance to reply?
The idea was that the Confederate fleet had arrived in the area, but wasn't too keen on plunging headfirst into a situation where they don't know what's quite going on.
Even assuming that both the Remorans and the Confederates took the same route into the system, there is a distance factor to take into consideration.
Bad analogy: If there are only two cars on a purely straight highway, they might see each other if they're only a couple of miles away. They're not likely to see each other if they're a hundred miles away.
Sensor strength weakens with range and what not, albeit this problem disappears if someone sends scouting ships of some sort. From what I understand, the Remorans haven't done so, and neither has the Confederation, but Gestalt has; hence the systems defenders being more likely to see the Confederate fleet.
The Remorans have only probed the Gestalt System to investigate the system at the end of the line (so to speak). They would have seen the Colonials large ship under construction and implimented a plan to destroy it (which they did during it's launch).
After that, there was hesitation in how to proceed with the system proper. Dealing with ships is one thing, dealing with planets and population is something else (at least for the Remorans and how they've been written so far).
With their hardware, they do not probe or scout against starship targets coming from behind as their doctrine is building stuff that can take a severe beating. They would probe where they are going for planning purposes but surprise attacks or whatnot, they are not concerned about at this time.
So they would not necessarily see Corise's fleet. Then again, their scanning/sensors would not be as sophisticated as Gestalt or Confederation. Location, Size, and power readings but nothing that would give them weapon type or such specifics like that. Confederation/Gestalt ships would probably (ship vs ship) have a greater range on sensors and the only way the Remoran range is increased would be through probes (external detachments).
As for Corise's post, Confederation Expeditionary Force, if it was from Kashan, I might question it's speed in getting there but if it's been cobbled together from the rest of the hyperlane's patrol groups and did not stop to investigate or check the sentry stations and made straight to Gestalt, I can see their initial arrival.
But even if it is from Kashan, it's not a big deal to me to object or anything.
So I don't have a problem with his post.
Outside the system leaves alot of empty space after all..
