The screen opens to a panoramic shot of blue oceans, the sun shining in a rare moment.

The screen pans and everywhere the eye can see, water covers the surface.

Mon Calamari?

Then the camera begins to move forward…slowly at first ….the rate of speed suddenly increasing until you are racing over the surface of the water…

..coming to a massive structure being built on many thin stilt foundations.

A monumental project.

A monument.

To a man who had worked to bring his world back into the hands if it’s natives.

Traks Vin Deisik

The world was Kamino..

The “Blue” Planet.

The Foundation of Empire.

A sea shoots skyward as the great flying beasts of Kamino launch into the sky before the sun slips behind the growing gray clouds, it’s presence little felt all over the World of Storms.

First five… then ten… and then twenty..

The migration of the great creatures stirs the imagination, the older creatures .. if one looked closely, could see the scars of massive burns… their leathery wing punctured here and there showing the tell tale signs of blaster fire.

Two squadrons of Tie Fighters flanks the migration route, keeping a safe distance respecting the flight pattern of a creature born native to the planet.

A planet dear to the Empire.

For as any historian would tell you, this is where the backbone of the Empire was first created. It was the Grand Army of the Republic which later became the Imperial Army at the Republic’s transcendence to Empire that helped save the government from the malicious fears of the Separatists who tried to destroy the Republic and ultimately, the Empire.

Weak minded aliens and weak willed humans … all to tear down all that was..

..beautiful.

The scene changes, bringing the audience inside a Kamino dwelling, a tiny… rather thin Kamino girl sits in an elegant chair staring at a viewing monitor…

Beautiful..

Elsewhere, the death tolls are coming in from battles lost and won throughout the Coalition’s and Sovereignty’s brutal attacks against the Empire.

A mother buries her head in her hands as she reads the name of her husband.

A man slams a fist into a nearby wall as he finds his wife no longer coming home.

A group of five children, holding the hand of their ailing grandmother suddenly find themselves orphans..

.

Why…?

A sliver of rage begins to build and a people turn to find someone to blame..

Why won’t mommy be coming back?

Why won’t daddy be walking through the front door anymore?

Why did the aliens go and do this evil deed?

The camera pans back to the tiny, little wide-eyed Kamino girl staring at a white viewing monitor.

On it’s dark screen is a Calamari speaker whose bony lips are moving amid the specialized breathing apparatus making him seem truly alien. His speech was both guttural and raspy as the moisture contained in the atmosphere worked against his voice.

The speech was in basic, though coming out harsh as Basic was not the creatures first, preferred language.

The tiny child sat in her chair unmoving as the speaker’s voice filled the room:

“This attack, along with their alliance of evil minions and allies, has shown that the empire cannot stand peace. We had coexisted peacefully since the wraith virus disaster, for some time. Top Mon Calamari officials felt that the days of opposition and enimity was over and we could have had signed a peace treaty between these warring factions.”

The child did not show any inflection of comprehension nor did she react. Her dark oval shaped eyes merely stared at the screen as spittle flew from the enraged Calamarian mouth..

"But the empire, without one word of warning or explanation, struck down these chances in a horrible battle.”

The child merely stared.

"Lead by the war criminal and inhumane monster…

The camera pans closer to the Kaminoan child….

..closer…

Her head not moving toward the camera..

And when the camera stops..

The audience sees that the child is blind. A massive criss-cross of scars run up and down the right side of her head and neck. Major head trauma scarring along the temporal lobe confirm the child may not even be aware of what room she’s in.

We ask the galaxy to reconsider the empire; is it stable enough?

If it struck us, what keeps it from striking you?

Are we safe in a galaxy ruled by power-hungry megalomaniacs under the guise of a lawful empire?

So to those who stand unsure on the balance of good and evil, know that justice resides, as always, with the Coalition"

The Kaminoan girl is the only suriving daughter of Traks Vin Deisik, the brave native that tried to work within the occupation system only to be defeated by the corrupt politics of the decadent martial government, merely a guise of democracy.

All for a better government… a new radical government..

All for social aims at improving the welfare of his downtrodden fellow Kaminoans…

All for his daughter..

He died a man stripped of ideals..

Dead but not forgotten.

..at least by the Empire.

The Calamari leaders would like you to believe that the war was started by Imperial aggression against Mon Calamari..

You hear it in the news broadcasts day in and day out..

Mon Calamari…

Mon Calamari…

Mon Calamari…

That the attack happened is not in question…

But the spitting alien on the viewer would have you believe that just because they are not disclosing the reason for the attack, that means there was no reason..

And since when, at anytime, did the Empire do things for no reason?

It’s ridiculous..

It is a glaring act of omission.

To the Calamari.. probably a minor omission. But to others..

..to the girl..

It was their whole life.

Why the war really started…

What prompted the Imperial attack on Mon Calamari and Kamino. The latter seems to be all but forgotten..

Atrocities usually are…

From the archives of the Bastion Conclave..

It all started harmless enough… but then, these things usually do.

The heavier armed, more impressive military leader from the MCR dealing with the self interested, self gratified, corrupt officials ruling Kamino at the time..

The negotiations had hit a hurdle.

"You think youre' so great"

"How did they ever elect YOU as a governor!"

"How dare you mock our people!"

As a historical narrator would tell you..

The topic of swimming had come up at the negotiations table and both the tall, gangly people of Kamino and the smaller, squishier people of mon cal had a different approach to swimming.

This lead to converstion, then debate, then an argument, then they had a bathroom break, then a brawl.

That such an inane subject would cause two sets of leaders from two respective governments to fight (or brawl) is suspicious. The ridiculousness of such an occurance can only be explained with the understanding that both the military leaders of the Mon Calamari Republic and the corrupt leaders of Kamino did not take these “talks” seriously at all.

They were merely actors for a far grander stage of occupation to come later.

Would the more paramount issues of what the people wanted, local voters choices, impact to Kamino economy be discussed?

You see, each had different safety regulations and protocols around water. Now it had become a political nightmare that neither would agree on. Will the negotiators be able to surmount such a complex issue?

So complex that neither party could not decide how to safety act around…water? This coming from two peoples who are native to water planets.

No.. the real reason is brought out in the attitudes as displayed in the archives..

The issue got bigger and bigger. Soon people started getting abit fascist.

Seeing that the only people involved were MCR military leaders/”negotiators” and Kamino “leaders”, this helps a discerning one to note these dictatorial attitudes that showed themselves when the façade slipped illustrates the true plight the people of Kamino faced.

The façade slipped back into place.

They had seemed to come to a peaceful soloution.

The fascists had won the day..

But what about the people? Did the corrupt government officials ever talk to their people? Did they care what the people thought or wanted? Did the Calamarian or did
they simply see a means to an end?
In any event, the people spoke!

Some separatist group of Kamino people thought this put them as nothing but the servants of the Mon Calamari.

So fed up with their corrupt government officials they were moved to throw their oppressors off-world!

They started off by bombing the Kamino Government house.

It was as if the façade of peaceful talks dropped completely for it was at this moment that the MCR chose to conquer Kamino assuming that the corrupt government could not handle it’s freedom fighters..

And why?

Because these kaminos were armed.

No doubt the proliferation of small arms daunted any respectable law enforcement agency.

Why didn’t they just admit that they wanted Kamino right from the start and stop playing the “concerned friend”?

So what did the fascist MCR military leaders do first? After the people disagreed with their government?

Mon Cals used a unit of shock troops to quell the rioters

Their reasoning: The freedom seekers were armed with weapons that were carefully analyzed and found to be highly dangerous to be shot with.

Why? Because they might kill you.

It was lucky the freedom seekers did not go against them with school children armed with pencils or the MCR might have to deploy their Deathstalker Troops because the pencils used might kill someone.

But the MCR response was swift and brutal.

The Mon Calamari sent a vast shock infantry force to the surface of Kamino.

..and took it with force causing the freedom seekers to go to ground. With the civilians quelled by the fear of the Calamari Shock Troopers the façade was put back..

The Diplomats returned and continued their negotiations..

Except there was a new change that belied any legitimacy to these “talks”.

That was that these discussions were taking place under the protection of the Troops.

The people were furious!

But many Kamino were opposed to the Mon Calamari troops being posted on their world. They held protest marches and called their representatives to insist on the removal of ‘Fish Head’ troops on the double.

But MCR already had a powerful foothold. Would they leave in the name of diplomacy?

The Mon Calamari refused. They needed security, after the incident before, and were prepared to argue for it.

What could the people do? They were losing their freedom at an astonishing rate!

They had one last card for a peaceful solution..

But one city was displeased by this, and seceded from the Kamino government.

One city on an entire planet.

Could this be granted? The Kamino’s took their freedom very seriously..

The Kamino said they would kill the hostages unless the Mon Cals broke the treaty immediately. The Mon Calamari, forced to comply, accepted the demands. The treaty was broken.

A victory for freedom!

Alas..

Upon the safe return of the hostages, a military police unit broke into the city and arrested all of the city leaders. They were tried with treason, and were locked up. The negotiators once again returned, this time under much heavier guard. They insisted that the old treaty be reinstated.

The Mon Calamari betrayed their word and went against what they said they’d do. No doubt slapping themselves on their backs for their “ingenuity”.

A local report said the following:

The kamino adapted to this "martial law" which had been instated. But it resulted in many fights breaking out. And I mean many. Several soldiers are killed in accidents or fights with the locals. The situation worsend until an explosion on waterfront property was blamed on several members of the kamino police force.

The MCR definition of “adapted” leaves much to be desired.

With the people beaten down, MCR tried to solidify their control..

After some time, the Mon calamari decided to build a Mon Calamari and Quarren city on the surface of Kamino, so as to facilitate any future deals or needs.

A team of master architects were sent, who studied the build of the older Mon Calamari floating cities. They began calling in the labour and parts to build it. Slowly they chose a good place, in a spot between the equator and the north. There they started construction, from the top of large floating transports. They built slowly and laboriously adding detail to each part of the basic city. More work went into it. This was the first step in the melding of the two cultures.

The destruction of the Kamino culture and the total infusion of Mon Calamari beliefs, architecture, and culture was to drown the natives out.

Soon the city was finished enough to allow the first Mon Calamari settelers…. Homes were built by hard-working Mon Calamari workers..

And the pitiful inhabitants?

The city began construction of an outer wall to keep off the worse of the elements,… The city found it cheaper to employ Kamino Konstruction, Korperation to do the building for them.

Their reward was a small bonus that granted only after the occupation government discussed it and felt to deny it (as they originally had planned) would only disrupt the resignated population and might stir more heated feelings.

But no matter. For all their working in the harsh conditions to build the outer wall of the occupying forces new city, they received a plaque… even a pet squid.

There was much rejoicing by the Mon Calamari who fleeced the Kaminoans exceedingly well.

New homes were built, and an ad campaign was sent to Mon Calamari to get new colonists.

More and more, the Kamino voice was being drowned by the Calamari..

So Traks Vin Deisik, a local Kamino, tried to set up a political party to try to work within the legal system of MCR to bring more rights and freedoms to the working Kamino people at the order of their Calamari masters.

But his occupiers wouldn’t allow him to win and upon the votes going to the outside voters, that was just too much..

The fighting broke out again severely. The people were desperate and they were losing..

With MC-90 cruisers in orbit, nothing would change for Kamino unless something else was done..

Something was done..

… the Empire had come.

Excerpt from an informal interview with Grand Marshall Kaine

“What started the war, Marshall?”

“The liberation of Kamino.”

“But then why attack Mon Calamari?”

“Did you see the tapes on the bloody occupation of Kamino?”

“Yes..”

“Then what do you think would have happened if the Empire jumped it’s entire fleet over Kamino?”

“Given the investment the Calamrians had already placed on the planet, they would have brought their entire fleet in as well..”

“Exactly. The idea was to liberate Kamino. Not subject it to a major conflict in orbit around it.”

“So you had to draw the bulk of the MCR fleet away from the Kamino liberation?”

“You’ve got it. Mon Calamari was a tactical decision. It ended up saving lives .. Imperial, Calamarian, as well as Kaminoan. If our two large fleets had clashed, who knows what the body count would have been.” Simon Kaine stretched out. “As it turns out, Theren Gevel uncovered treasonous activities of the Calamarians after the liberation.”

“So you weren’t out to conquer Mon Calamari?”

Kaine laughed, “If we were going to conquer it, believe me, we would have conquered it.”

“So… MCR conquers Kamino… The Empire liberates Kamino drawing MCR to Mon Calamari as a feint. MCR gets mad at Kamino liberation and eventually launches an attack on Corellia?”

“Something like that though there is evidence that, in actuality, it’s the Outer Rim Sovereignty that is playing the puppetmasters pulling the strings of TGC… to their detriment. But only time will tell.”

Kaine sighed, “The ecological damages wrought by the instruction of an indigenous Mon Calamari squid were almost incalculable. Once some had gotten out into the sea, they multiplied like crazy offsetting the local plankton fields causing Kamino sealife to starve. Did the Mon Calamari ever do studies on the damages a squid from their planet may do to Kamino? They upset the whole balance to the planet’s food chain thinking it was ..cute. It took hundreds of thousands of credits to finally wipe them off of Kamino.”

“But what gave the Empire it’s legal imperative to liberate Kamino?” the reporter asked. “It’s not like they asked for it..”

Kaine smiled. “Actually, they did. The Kaminoans came to Arliss Industries in hopes of having them develop a bioweapon to use against their oppressors. Unfortunately for them, our Biogenics Accords prohibit such acts. We could see they were grasping at straws and desperate. We opted for a more conventional method.”

“I did not know they asked for help..”

“Most don’t..”

We ask the galaxy to reconsider the empire; is it stable enough?

Is liberating an oppressed people an unstable act?

If it struck us, what keeps it from striking you?

A valid question to all psychopathic murderers.

Are we safe in a galaxy ruled by power-hungry megalomaniacs under the guise of a lawful empire?

In other words, are we safe from the designs of Mon Calamari?

So to those who stand unsure on the balance of good and evil, know that justice resides, as always, with the Coalition.

Justice from behind a shocktrooper’s rifle barrel.

”As for the claims that the Mon Calamari Republic murdered numerous people on Kamino, those are all completely true.”

"Hm, He brings up some good points. We really are stupid. We should really seek out this man."

-Unidentified Coalition High Command member

"A civilised people who attack civilian targets.

A civilised people who commit war crimes in broad daylight.

A civilised people who start a war without a word of justification or explination, or even some sort of declaration.

Yes, we see how right and just your empire is."

Damned by their own words…

You be the judge.

Who started the war?

The camera pans to the little, skinny Kamino girl sitting down in a narrow chair. Unable to see, she cocks her head to one side and says to a nearby imagined sound..

“dada?”

There is no response from the Coalition, when asked one official was quoted as saying "What's the fracking point? Its' always just our word against their's, god-forbid we tell the truth being a bunch of radicals and heartless-@#%$-aliens. And before that is jumped on by the Empire, I mean it sarcastically."

They let the propaganda roll, because there is not a speck of hope that anything they can say will de-rail it.

Although it is already apparent that it may have hurt the yet-born peace...

INS excerpt:

This article is an indictment of an atrocity rather than of any one government...

The evil is the deed.... Not any one government.

And as the Coalition and The New Order have shown...with firm resolve, with accords reached, that the combined wills of good governments can and WILL overcome the future spread of similiar atrocities..
