GNN - What was thought to have been a star going nova, was really a massive explosion that took place aboard a Serendivus Research Station located in orbit above a gas giant.
Early this morning scientist's and workers where awoken to an explosion that riped the station in half, causing the first half to fall toward the gas giant and eventually burn up, it's unknown how many where aboard that half of the station.
The second half is currently still in space, but with a loss of gravity it is slowly being torn apart.
A distress call was soon sent out from the station, several ships responded to the distress call including a few police vessels from a nighboring system, however the most overwhealming response came from the Steller Enterprise.
It was reported that the Research Station was working on a new type of torpedo used to blast open large asteroids so that mining drones could more easily collect the ore inside. However for reasons that are left unknown several of these warheads suddenly activated, the resulting explosion chained through the station and reached one of the four main reactors, resulting in the station being torn in half.
The Serendivus have responded with several of there own cruisers and one carrier, currently a medical carrier is inroute to help transport the wounded to the nearest Coalition planet for treatment.
Right now it is unknown how many more are dead, or how many more will die. Other than the station exploding, it was also reported that several ships in the area suffered system's damage from the sudden shockwave, no fatalty's where reported amongst those on board the ships in system, however several have lost the ability to move and have to be towed to safety.
One mercheant cargo vessel had lost it's engines while moving around the gas giant, the cargo vessel was almost destroyed before a police corvette came into the system and towed the vessel to safety.
