A prominent figure of the Galactic Defence Initiative military steps up the podium. Clearing her throat, she begins to speak:

"Citizens of the galaxy. It is with the greatest regret that I announce a Level II military alert across all sectors belonging to the Galactic Defence Initiative.

"What does this mean? It means that from now on, no starships will be able to access Initiative-controlled space without first passing through our military checkpoints.

"All hyperspace routes to and from our planetary systems have been cut off. The means of this blockade cannot be released, but we guarantee any ships attempting to by any means other than those listed below, will not survive.

"This act comes as a direct response to the hostile actions taken by the Rogue, sorry, the Jutrallian Empire. When our Military Council decides that these measures can stand down, you will be informed."

The image vanished, to be replaced with a list of checkpoints and how to get to them.

Checkpoint One - Trader Station
New Alderaan System

Checkpoint Two - Ranger Station
Ord Mantell System

Checkpoint Three - Solo Station
Rineekia System

Checkpoint Four - Organa Station
Eriadu System

Checkpoint Five - Strident Station

Checkpoint Six - Sabre Station

Checkpoint Seven - Settler Station
Sullust System

OOC: I assume thats an empty threat, correct?
  • Posted On: Aug 15 2002 4:18am
OOC: Nope - this countermeasure will result in any ships that trigger them falling under an immediate and brutal attack

OOC: He can control travel of civilian traffic, but not outside military.

And generally Isstal, if anyone were to break this, they'd have a big enough force to counter with. So, someone who is more powerful than you, like the Jutrallain Empire, wouldn't need to worry much.

You obviously don't understand how it works, and that's a given because I didn't tell you.

I've mined all the possible spacelanes with Empion mines. Sure, space is big, but there are only so many that could be accessed, much less a fleet large enough to attack a planet.

By mining said spaceways, all, let's say, 5000 that lead to a particular planet, with said Empion mines, I can literally stop people from getting there.

(After all, space is filled with stars, black holes, nebulas, etc. that means that a fleet cannot just go anywhere, there are only so many different possibilities)

Now then, an Empion mine.

First introduced, I think, in Wraith Sqaudron, they are very state of the art weapons.

Basically, they detect hyperspace travel and explode. The electromagnetic pulse pulls ships out of hyperspace and overhwlems them, wiping their memories, damaging them, and setting them adrift. It also sends a signal to me, via a one-shot hypercom relay thingy.

For example, Wraith Sqaudron was hit by one, and had to go EV to repair their fighters. One couldn't be repaired with what they had on hand.

Granted, an Imperial warship may be able to repair itself faster, but they also have to repair all of their fellows, if they want to keep up the attack, and in that time when they're defencless I can sick a fleet on them.

Simple, brutal, and effective.

So, if you didn't divulge "how it works, and that's given because I didn't tell you," or anyone for that matter, what were you planning on doing if you were attacked?

Going, "Ha-ha, my mines blew you up?"

Like that would fly.

I ask that this be reviewed by the staff to confirm it is conductive of fair roleplaying.

Actually, yes. There's a public warning *points*, so anyone who flies into the things knew that something was waiting.

Also, the info about the mines and that the mines are Empion mines, it all OOC info.

Keep your propagandized Checkpoints in your own systems. As far as I can tell, Vortex and Sullust are not yours.

Just so long as Isstal keeps the damage claims small, it'll be kosher. Obviously, mines, each less than 4 meters and equipped with very short range weapons are not going to be able to stand up to a volley by long-range heavy turbolasers.

Vortex and Sullust takeovers are in progress as we speak, so I felt it was neccessary to defend them as well.

The mines damage isn't huge, just knocks ships out of hyperspace and messes up the computers some, erases the memory. The worst damage could easily be repaired in the proper conditions, the point of the mine is really to knock them offline long enough for someone to get there and finish them off.
