Elsewhere in the galaxy, recently…

The Chiss Empire entered the space of Mon Calamari and declared among other things the following: “This system is now under the direct command of the Chiss Imperial Order”

Imperial Center….Really..

Military Command – Confidential Meeting

“…all shipping will be boarded, no exceptions.” The Grand Marshall was explaining to those that would carry out Imperial Policy.

“Seems excessive, Sir.” One Rear Admiral commented.

“So does two terrorist actions on Imperial Center in as many months, Admiral.” Kaine answered briskly. “First the Cryonics Buildings and then the Wrath Virus. We will be damned if something else happens like that again. Traffic will simply slow.. but it WILL be safer.”

“The New Republic didn’t have near as many strictures…” started a District Governor with military ties.

Simon Kaine quirked an eyebrow at him, his smile grim. “That would be our point. Where is the New Republic now?”

The Governor tipped his head in acknowledgement of the point.

“Damned Chiss!!” exclaimed Ysane Isard as she walked very determined into the meeting which irritated Kaine to no end. Why the Regent saw fit to keep her in her position was beyond him.

Confusion, though, instantly spread across his features as his mind grabbed hold of certain facts. “There are no more Chiss on Csilla, Director.” He stated matter-of-factly.

“No.. not those Chiss. The other Chiss!” Isard snapped back, her colored eyes taking the Grand Marshall’s measure. Not for the first time.

“The Chiss Empire?” A sudden pain appeared in the back of Kaine’s head, his eyes asking the unspoken question: What have those fools gone and done now?

But instead, “What have they done?”

Since the Regent himself promoted their alliance, talking ill of his actions was not wise, even in secret meetings.

“They have hauled off and attacked Mon Calamari.”

The Grand Marshall took a few extra seconds as the import of the Intelligence Director’s words got through… the same question running through his mind over and over.

“Why?” Kaine asked, calling up the information of Mon Calamari. “Are they building weapons of mass destruction? Are they building a Death Star?”

A Commodore in the back grunted at that.

Ysane Isard found an empty chair and sat down. “If they did, it would be underwater probably..but honestly, Marshall, I haven’t the faintest idea. Most of our resources are here, reinforcing and locking down Coruscant. Against that, only a small amount of agents roam the galaxy.”

She sighed, her age suddenly (in rare form) coming out.

“Besides, the action is over already.” She stated and inserted a data crystal into a nearby monitor.

A transmission speaking of a celebration was commencing.

“Vinda Corp?” someone asked.

“Victory over Chiss Day or something like that.” Isard commented.

All eyes turned to Kaine who stared at the transmission for a bit. A slow smile spread across his face. “Well then. Good for the Mon Calamarians. Foolish and impetuous people deserve the fate they get.”

“How does this affect alliances and or existing treaties?” Admiral Chandler asked.

“Our ties to the Sith our good. The remnants of The Naboo Sith Order are here on Imperial Center and our Inquistorium Division is expanding it’s ranks.

Any outside Sith ties would need to follow standard Imperial Treaty Protocol. The last thing we need is a Sith Religious War.”

There was a murmur of agreement to that.

“The Chiss Empire then?”

“Defunct it appears.”

Kaine smiled inwardly. Better the Regent see the folly of his decisions by their outcome than court treason by telling him so.

“Then if there is nothing else..” The Grand Marshall was starting to say when he remembered a transmission from Jenice. His eyes narrowed as a rather strange thought entered his mind.

“Damage done to Mon Calamari?” he asked.

Isard was surprised by the question. “Unknown.”

Turning to Admiral Chandler, “Send a cruiser to Mon Calamari and find out if they need assistance.”

Chandler nodded at the order, though there were questions in his eyes.

He wouldn’t be the only one.

”There is another item… “ Isard started, interrupting his train of thought.

“Yes?”

“Take a look at this…” and she pushed a button.

Millions take to streets to protest war

IMPERIAL CENTRE, Millions of protestors filled plazas and walkways on Coruscant today to protest the Sovereign Chiss Empire's war on the Mon Calamari Republic.

The Grand Marshall’s eyebrows rose as the room began to stir. “Is there another planet claiming the accolade of Imperial Center that I do not know of?”

Ysane smiled slightly at that. It did not enhance her feminine features. “Not that I am aware of, Marshall.”

“Was there a declaration of war?” another Admiral asked.

“Not from either the Chiss or the Mon Cals, though it is a rather moot point with the Fishheads.”

“True.”

The transmission continued:

"We're not supporting the MCR, or the SCE," said one protestor who braved thunderstorms to march for peace, "but we don't think that there is any reason for war. I want the Chiss and their allies to give us a reason for this war, and then maybe some of us will be satisfied."

Some protestors held hand-made signs reading "No More Bombs" or "War: No Way!". Others carried more slanderous placards, bearing such messages as "Hyfe fucks Xilen's @#%$" and "@#%$ yourself, Zilen, it's cheaper!".

“Now just how long was this.. ‘war’?”

“A couple of days I think. Maybe less.”

The Grand Marshall rubbed his eyes. “So let me get this straight. In the day or two that this ‘war’ (which truth be told seems to be a failed attack, according to this News Report from..?”

“LFX”

“Thank you.. LFX, not only did the general galactic civilian population get wind of this abrupt and surprising attack before the Imperial Military Command, but organized themselves by the millions, had time to make placards insulting the source of Imperial Power, the Regent, here in his own Capital no less, and disregard and evade the Department of InterGalactic Affairs and yet suffer the bad luck of having a News Agency based, several million light years away catch them on film?”

Admiral Chandler barked out a laugh.

“Did I pretty much get everything?” Kaine asked.

”You forgot the fact that this transmission happened around the same day the Chiss launched their attack.” Isard added helpfully.

The Grand Marshall smiled wryly. “Makes you wonder doesn’t it?”

“It does Marshall.”

Imperial Riot Police clashed with protestors in the Sienna District when the demonstrations turned violent and speeders began to get smashed.

More than one hundred arrests were made.

Across the galaxy, protests took place on more than a thousand planets, including Corellia, Commenor, Mon Calamari, Ord Mantell, and Tholatin. Estimates range from 500 million protestors to more than three billion.

Several hundred protests were forcibly put d----….

Kaine motioned for the recording to stop. “That’s enough. I want facts, not estimates and wet dreams of Grandmother Spacewarp and what she or LFX would like to see happen in the galaxy.”

“Anything else?”

“Just one other thing.” The Intelligence Director added and showed Kaine the surrender terms from the Chiss.

Now Kaine did laugh. There was no mistaking the Chiss’ good intentions toward the New Order but experience and ability was what counted more to Kaine than simple intentions.

“The Chiss arrive, issue terms of surrender. The Mon Cals defend themselves defeating the Chiss and not only defeating them in battle but hurting them to the extent their government topples?” Kaine’s grin still remained. “Perhaps we should employ some Mon Calamarians to teach strategy at the Academy.”

The laughter was nervous at that suggestion.

Kaine let them off the hook. Turning to an aide, “Have the Ministry send out an appropriate transmission to Mon Calamari.”

The aide left the room.

“I miss VNN..” The Grand Marshall muttered and the meeting continued.

Official News Item – Ministry of Information, Department of InterGalactic Affairs

A transmission was sent via hypernet to Mon Calamari commending the defenders for their victory over their attackers. The transmission also carried the advance warning of an Imperial Cruiser that would arrive in system to offer any support.
