DIRECTIVE 143
JEDI CORPS
RECOGNIZED AS LEGAL ENTITY
The crowd quiets as Simon Kaine walked to the podium in a rare public appearance. He puts his black gloved hands on either side and makes eye contact with those seated, holonet recorders and projectors the only thing heard running in the silent room.
He takes a deep breath and begins...
"The first and most important order of business is regarding the Regent..." the attendees held their breath. "As you were informed several hours ago, he was found amid the wreckage of the Galactus in critical condition."
He paused before letting out a small smile.
"I am happy to inform you that his injuries are no longer critical and he is making an excellent recovery. We expect him back in office within the next few weeks. In fact he..."
Kaine's voice was drowned out as the room began to cheer. Some stood clapping their hands and the Commander of the Empire's Armed Forces let them go for a few minutes before putting his hand up in an attempt to bring the room back to order.
"We have uncovered a plot by certain elements within some socio-political minority groups to assassinate key leaders within the Empire. These groups were supported by liberal sects within the ISB. The attempt on Grand Moff Zell's life, the destruction of my flagship and the injuries to the Regent and myself are testaments to the determination of our enemies."
Silence reigned.
Simon's eyes grew angry.
"It is also a testament to their failure! As the largest and most successful government in the history of the galaxy we are going to be targets to insurrectionist, anarchist, terrorists and various other enemies from within and without.
For years our military forces have stood on the front lines defending our security, our way of life!
Ever since the Rebellion against the Empire, the leadership has been trying to find a way to cement our internal policies to avoid the selfish strife that threatens daily to tear us asunder.
And with each internal threat faced, our New Order has grown that much more stronger!
But it is not enough!
Tonight, that changes!
How?
By bringing back a beloved organization. An organization that was synonymous with the Old Republic. An organization that kept the peace and was the guardian of order for over a thousand generations!
Before self motivated ideologies and self promoting agendas warped their august body into the knife that pierced the heart of the Republic.
So much so that it was necessary for Chancellor Palpatine to reorganize the government into the Empire.
Now, that organization is a mere ghost of the privilege it once was, perverted and twisted. It's members charged with the destruction of everything you and your families hold dear.
Some of you have heard the programs blaming the Jedi for the Clone Wars, for the problems crippling the Old Republic and for their warmongering and preying upon us now.
And it's disheartening!
For it was such a good organization at one time!
The Jedi Order, the guardians of peace and justice throughout the galaxy!
Now a self made mockery!
The Ministry of Justice and the leadership, under Regent Hyfe, have for years poured over the experiences of old trying to find an answer to what went wrong. We felt that if we found that, we just might find the answer to securing our infrastructure forever!
And do you know what? We found it.
You see, the Jedi Order of old was an entity unto itself, holding itself separate from the general body politic of the Old Republic. Their allegiance was not to Republican Law but to their own self-styled code of justice. To themselves and to people!
They gave their support to Senators! To those who supported Jedi agendas!
And we saw what sort of outcome that brought about...
But what if... what if we could create an organization who's allegiance was the Law of the people, of the organization they were sworn to protect?
The preservation of our ideals!"
Kaine paused.
"Tonight, I announce the reestablishment of the Jedi within our government! No longer a separate order, operating outside the oversight of the government, but a Corps of men and women dedicated to the peace and secuirty that we deserve! Dedicated to preserving the order we've come to appreciate by upholding the laws that make such order possible.
My fellow citizens, tonight the Jedi Corps officially becomes a legal entity under the COMPNOR charter for the Preservation of our New Order.
Over the next few months, Jedi Corps compounds will be going up on most worlds within the Empire.
From now on, when we refer to the Jedi, we shall refer to the Corps. The decaying shadow of a copy residing on Naboo will be henceforth referred to as a cult.
The Guardians of Peace and Justice are back and this time, they have their priorities straight!
