Galvanized by Planet Wide Address, Public Takes to Streets
Gatherings are Peaceful; Citizens Petition for Independence Referendum
Anoat City, Anoat- The streets were filled today, as people from all walks of life took a day off from whatever they were doing to make it clear the intention of the planets populace. Scenes of crying, and rejoicing intermingled as the planet allowed a release of feeligns which have haunted the people since what locals call "The Breaking."
The Breaking was a brutal crackdown on Anoat Independence seekers by the former government of the Outer Rim Soveringty. Overshadowed by the ORS-Imperial conflict, and such public issues are Abregadeo-Rae and Taaloran, Anoat was a unsung tragedy- the scene of a bloody trench war that left hundreds of thousands dead, and Anoat's people broken shells of their former selves.
The collapse of the ORS goernment after the Pactum Soverignty treaty, and the subsequent inheritance of much of their territory by the Galactic Coalition or Galactic Empire left the retooling of Anoat to another foreign power, the next in a succession of such groups who have controled the planet. Civil disorder and unrest have plauged the planet as a terrorist group known as the Liberty Sect commited acts of terror and fought insurgency campaigns in hopes of freeing Anoat. The Sect was hurt heavily by "the Breaking", but seems to have recovered, and has been known affiliates of the Galactic Liberation Front.
Last night however, a holo transmission was pirated and put over all of Anoat. The message came from a Liberty Sect member, who told the people of Anoat that they could only recover if they did so on their own- but did not name the Coalition as a target for attacks. The message was peacful, and has brought Anoaters out in droves- swarming the newly elected self government to petition for complete independence from the Galactic Coalition. The new self government has not confirmed or denied rumors that such a measure has been done, and the Coalition offices on Anoat were not available to comment on the situation.
The intent of the people is obvious; but how long such peacful outpouring of intent and rejoicing is a question peopl across the planet is wondering. In speaking with one joyous protestor, who was cheering outside the capitol building in Anoat City,
"We all want this to go peacfully- the Coalition promised the people of Anoa that they could have the power to run themseleves. We all went to those classes. We know we are capable. But if they don't give us the chance, we will fight them- as hard as we fought ORS."
Ominious words, from an joyous place.
