You must live on the East Coast or in the South. It was always called soda or coke there. You'd go to a fast food joint and ask for a coke, and they'd ask what kind, and you'd say root beer or something.

Pop still bugs me because I spent the first 15 years of my life on the east. My grandparents always called it pop, so now it always just sounds weird to me, and I associate it with old people.
