I hate Kas
You are viewing an old version of this page.
(Yeah, the whole reason we waited till today to launch this thing was to advertise the showcase. Kas forgot that, plus I wrote this whole thing with an agonyzing pain in one of my hands, so I'm posting it now no matter what)

Today is a new chapter in the history of TRF. Since it’s move to an independent server and the changeover to Vbulletin, TRF has seen some good times and some bad times. Most of the good times involved great roleplaying and most of the bad times have been related to arguments, many of which involving disagreements with the rules.

The staff has heard your pleas. Our rules sucked. So we got rid of them.

It came to our attention that no amount of stringent math based formula composition would help reduce the arguments, and that we should instead make an effort to put the focus where it should be; on TRF’s excellent writers, awesome story arcs, and intricate character development, rather than on who had the most imaginary ships. A new set of guidlines have been drafted with this in mind, changing the emphasis from “I have a bigger fleet so die” to something more closely resembling “My group has been preparing for this war for years; have at you, cretin, and death be to him who first cries, hold, enough!”

If you are new (and if you are, please will you stay please please please we’ll give you candy) or even if you’re not, you may wish to take time to acquaint yourself with the new features of TRF.

The new guidelines for roleplaying at TRF can be found here. This is a mandatory read for all members of TRF, as the system has been completely overhauled from what the old vets are used to and likely unique to new members as well. The system is completely different from what you may be used to or it may not be, and if it takes a little getting used to then it’s okay. It’s been in the works for a while, and was released today to coincide with the Festival of TRF. Okay, I made that up, but still! They’re here! Read them! REEEEEEAAAAAADDDDD THEM! {Seth edit: Yeah take it from me, read the rules!}

TRF also now has a biography forum. You can access it here. You are encouraged to post a biography in this forum and keep it updated with important and pertinent imformation. This will help other roleplayers to get a feel for your character and help them in formulation of storyline ideas, as well as helping the staff determine factors relating to experience and your writing ability. Plus, your character is your hard work… You deserve to show it off! Work it, work it! Yeah baby, yeah!

In a long-standing tradition of showcasing the best of TRF, we regularly pin threads that we feel are of exceptional merit in both writing quality and story entertainment. This month we decided to feature four threads, the ones listed below. Feel free to read them but don’t stop there… there were some excellent roleplays that were not showcased, and are definitely worth reading. Kick up your feet… it’s all good baby, it’s all good.

Of Endings: Empty the Cries of the Vanquished and Bitter the Taste of Defeat

Decades through time find a galaxy in turmoil. Following numerous wars the Empire stands triumphant over its enemies, almost all of known space crushed tightly under the Imperial jackboot. But soon the arrival of a deadly new menace, the insidious Blood, sends the remaining governments scrambling, fighting for not conquest, not victory, but simply survival. Forced into unity former enemies the Empire, New Republic, Black Dragons and Coalition must forge an alliance to defend everything the galaxy holds dear.

Meanwhile one man quests to gain insight into the workings of the Blood on the long razed Krake's Planet. The former home of Imperial Intelligence, will Ciscero succeed or will the Blood add another drop into the bucket of the casualties of war?
Apparitions: Faces of the Dead

A story that evolves shortly after the Galactic Empire's victory over the Outer Rim Sovereignty and documents the inner conflict within the Imperial Empire, afterward. The plots involve Grand Marshall Simon Kaine, the Empire's hierarchy, and their inner struggles for power, which begin with the destruction of the Empire's flagship, the Galactus. Investigations begin and treachery arises. What will result in the end?

On the other side of Imperial space, a broken man named Venn Macbeth creates the ultimate weapon of vengeance: tiny, microscopic nanites, with the power to strip down and consume anything and everything in its path, has been unleashed onto the Imperial Empire, starting primarily with Utropollus Major. Governor Theren Gevel has been summoned to deal with the situation at hand, and so begins the Empire's struggle to battle an unknown enemy who continues his thirst for revenge.
Legacies Forgotten and Buried Under Sands

The Cree'Ar Dominion are brought into an old struggle between the Kiyarans and the Seresians, and coming into direct conflict with the Galactic Coalition's Relief Force. With the Cree'Ar giving dangerous and mysterious weapons to the Seresians, and the Coalition scrambling to second-guess and evacuate before the new threat on the battered planet's surfaces, lies, war, and terror reign. Shadowy new players and puppetmasters appear around the edges of the conflict as well, bringing with them their own agendas and threatening to further unbalance the rapidly destabilizing situation. Even as both sides realize the truth and size up their enemies, it may be too late to avert conflict.

As both sides stand cautiously optimistic, old ghosts rise to the surface, and in safe cases, crash into them. And caught in the middle, survivors of the original Kiyaran war try and remain hopeful that they will not fall prey to the newest invasion of their quiet homeworld.

Half-Life

They say that you can’t go home again. Nobody told that to Zark Ekan. After struggling for his sanity and his very life, Zark returned home to Naboo, expecting to relax, reminisce, and then get back to work. But Zark is a changed man… a haunted man. And a moment’s lapse in concentration bring fragments of his past and visions of his future. Something happened the veteran Jedi, something dark, something he has not yet come to grips with.

And as he battles with questions to himself and answers from the dead, one question is never asked. As he tears himself apart and those around him struggle to support him as best they can, Zark Ekan can not bring himself to ask. Does he really ever want to know the answers?
Congratulations to all the writers chosen for this showcase on behalf of the staff.

Since TRF has had a portal, it has been used for news and also the occasional user review of arts and entertainment. The latest to chime in with his ten cents on the cheapest of entertainment available at present was the staff’s own Master Ahnk, as he drops his uneducated opinion on novel Prey and Gamecube videogame Resident Evil 4. Be aware that both reviews contain spoilers and you read at your own risk.

One final note, TRF has decided the time has come to make an official galaxy map. Attempts were made previously for a collaborative effort but we’ve come to the conclusion that group leaders of TRF are best not when left with their own vices, but rather when we force a solution upon them and speak in short, slow sentences. And so… we make map. You like it. That wasn’t so hard, was it? The map is currently in progress, but when it’s ready, it will be posted in the FAQ. A preview can be found here.

In closing. TRF would like to welcome you to our board, whether you are a first time visitor or a long time veteran, we hope there is something to your liking here and that you’ll stick around. If you have something to say, don’t be afraid to sign up and make a post. We won’t bite… except probably Ren, maybe Kraken, and sometimes Hyfe… okay, we’ll stop. Please don’t sue.
