I hate Kas
(Yeah, the whole reason we waited till today to launch this thing was to advertise the showcase. Kas forgot that, plus I wrote this whole thing with an agonyzing pain in one of my hands, so I'm posting it now no matter what)
Today is a new chapter in the history of TRF. Since it’s move to an independent server and the changeover to Vbulletin, TRF has seen some good times and some bad times. Most of the good times involved great roleplaying and most of the bad times have been related to arguments, many of which involving disagreements with the rules.
The staff has heard your pleas. Our rules sucked. So we got rid of them.
It came to our attention that no amount of stringent math based formula composition would help reduce the arguments, and that we should instead make an effort to put the focus where it should be; on TRF’s excellent writers, awesome story arcs, and intricate character development, rather than on who had the most imaginary ships. A new set of guidlines have been drafted with this in mind, changing the emphasis from “I have a bigger fleet so die” to something more closely resembling “My group has been preparing for this war for years; have at you, cretin, and death be to him who first cries, hold, enough!”
If you are new (and if you are, please will you stay please please please we’ll give you candy) or even if you’re not, you may wish to take time to acquaint yourself with the new features of TRF.
The new guidelines for roleplaying at TRF can be found here. This is a mandatory read for all members of TRF, as the system has been completely overhauled from what the old vets are used to and likely unique to new members as well. The system is completely different from what you may be used to or it may not be, and if it takes a little getting used to then it’s okay. It’s been in the works for a while, and was released today to coincide with the Festival of TRF. Okay, I made that up, but still! They’re here! Read them! REEEEEEAAAAAADDDDD THEM! {Seth edit: Yeah take it from me, read the rules!}
TRF also now has a biography forum. You can access it here. You are encouraged to post a biography in this forum and keep it updated with important and pertinent imformation. This will help other roleplayers to get a feel for your character and help them in formulation of storyline ideas, as well as helping the staff determine factors relating to experience and your writing ability. Plus, your character is your hard work… You deserve to show it off! Work it, work it! Yeah baby, yeah!
In a long-standing tradition of showcasing the best of TRF, we regularly pin threads that we feel are of exceptional merit in both writing quality and story entertainment. This month we decided to feature four threads, the ones listed below. Feel free to read them but don’t stop there… there were some excellent roleplays that were not showcased, and are definitely worth reading. Kick up your feet… it’s all good baby, it’s all good.
Congratulations to all the writers chosen for this showcase on behalf of the staff.
Since TRF has had a portal, it has been used for news and also the occasional user review of arts and entertainment. The latest to chime in with his ten cents on the cheapest of entertainment available at present was the staff’s own Master Ahnk, as he drops his uneducated opinion on novel Prey and Gamecube videogame Resident Evil 4. Be aware that both reviews contain spoilers and you read at your own risk.
One final note, TRF has decided the time has come to make an official galaxy map. Attempts were made previously for a collaborative effort but we’ve come to the conclusion that group leaders of TRF are best not when left with their own vices, but rather when we force a solution upon them and speak in short, slow sentences. And so… we make map. You like it. That wasn’t so hard, was it? The map is currently in progress, but when it’s ready, it will be posted in the FAQ. A preview can be found here.
In closing. TRF would like to welcome you to our board, whether you are a first time visitor or a long time veteran, we hope there is something to your liking here and that you’ll stick around. If you have something to say, don’t be afraid to sign up and make a post. We won’t bite… except probably Ren, maybe Kraken, and sometimes Hyfe… okay, we’ll stop. Please don’t sue.
