All that Miles could think about as he grudgingly made his way into Vinda Corporations main headquarters was how long the week away at Coruscant had been. The diplomat had only been gone for seven days but most of his hours had been spent working on a secret productions project for the corporation, so much so that he’d barely caught any sleep within the last seven days.
It was close to six o’clock in the morning when Miles came walking down the restricted hallway, which was only open to top security officials. He was quite tired and irritable, but nonetheless, he did his best to muster a cordial attitude toward his colleagues, smiling and giving the occasion wave as he passed people in the hall on the way to his office.
He entered first into Ms. Kraine’s office, his personal secretary. The woman’s office was adjacent to his and there was a door that separated her office from his. He could have easily walked a few steps further down the hall and he would have come to his office, but it always seemed to be more convenient for him to enter through his secretary’s office and then through the joined door.
“Another arduous morning Mr. Johnson?”
Miles had greeted the woman with good conversation and a friendly smile, yet still Kraine seemed to see right through him.
He gave her a subtle nod and a bashful grin and she chuckled.
“Another four twenty two then, I suppose,” she said, coming to return his grin with one of her own.
The young diplomat’s eyes filled with slight mischief toward the woman and he offered her his thanks before entering into his office, shutting the door behind him before he even set eyes on his office.
Yet as the man came to shut his door his senses' immediately set him at alert and he became away that he was not alone within the room. Slowly the diplomat turned around to find today forgotten and his days before, remembered.
“.. You’re a little late for goodbye…”
