Takeover of Primoria

Line commander Garik Hashona looked out the forward viewport, taking in the view of the bow of his command vessel, along with two other ships in his own personal fleet. The Vendetta was a large ship for a private owner to have rather than a goverment, the ship being a modified Republic-class star destroyer, well over twenty years old, or in other words, obselete to what the current galatic goverments could field, but still very powerful and deadly in a confrontation. Right now the destroyer was the largest ship in a fleet that had just dropped out of hyperspace within the planetery system known to it's current owners as Primoria.

Garik had once been a proud inhabitant of the world, a governer residing over one of the many small cities that dot the surface of the planet. His town once had a population of some ten thousand, but he had ruled with what some would call an iron fist, his methods of discipline and punishment deemed too brutal by the cities neighboring his.

But his actions went ignored by the regional goverment, until one day when a riot had broken out downtown. A company of enforcers, his personal bodyguards and protectors, had taken up defense of the front gates, the focus of the rioters assault. At first stun grenades and flash bangs had been used to try and discourage the protestors, but when this was deemed ineffective, he had come out himself to try and calm them down with words.

His words had been met with a hail of fruits that had passed their expiration dates, one particulary gruesome and smelly fruit exploding against his nose, assailing his nostrils with rotted scent.

With his anger blinding his common sense, he had ordered his troops to open fire on the crowd. Three salvoes of blaster bolts had rung out into the night, and the crowd scattered, leaving the streets stained with the fruit and the blood of the dead and dying. Medical personnel from surrounding areas had come in to help, while a flood of refugees, people who now feared for their safety, poured out of the city and into nearby towns.

In one night, Varnshat had been reduced from a thriving city to a ghost town. The body count from the massacre had topped thirty five by the next day, with another hundred ten wounded. Investigators from the shocked regional goverment had come into town, and after numerous interviews and evidence gathering, had placed Garik under arrest along with twelve of his personal enforcers. The others were dismissed from their posts for being involved in the action.

A trial had been set up, with many of the survivors demaning his execution. However, not wanting to kill one of their own, and only wanting to rid themselves of this incident and of the people involved, when the guilty plea had been entered, he was simply exiled from the planet along with his personal bodyguards.

Now, two years later, he had returned, along with his remaining bodyguards. When they had left the planet, they had traveled throughout the unknown regions, pillaging those that they could, running from those who were stronger. They had also ventured into the known galaxy, taking what they could, being careful to avoid any of the ruling galatic goverments.

He had gathered a personal war fleet together, and had laid out his plans to his enforcers. They had agreed to take part in the revenge plot, and so now here he was, in his destroyer, an escort frigate and two aging gunships slicing into the planetery system, ready to take revenge against those who had outcast him.

Garik decided to start things off by destroying every space vessel and station in the region.

"Launch the I-7 Howlrunners and Y-wing snubfighters. Have them target the stations and satellites while we go after the bigger prey." he ordered. Disgorging from the hangar bay of this own vessel and of the nearby escort frigate, two squadrons of the small nimble fighters and five squadrons of the bigger more lumbering assault bombers headed out on their mission.

The Vendetta in the meantime would attack the largest vessel in his homeworld's defense navy, an old Rendili dreadnought. The vessel was ancient, and the planetery goverment could barely keep it maintained and in working condition. Her turbolasers and missile launchers were still powerful however, and could pose a significant threat for his other vessels.

"Stand off." ordered Garik to his escorting vessels, "Engage the in system traffic. We will deal with the dreadnought alone."

The engagement was over in a single pass as both vessel blasted away with their broadsides. In the third volley the dreadnought's shields had collapsed, and the heavy turbolasers onboard the Vendetta melted through the thick armour of the old battlewagon, disabling her engines and leaving her drifting dead in space. The star destroyer turned around and starting leaking teams of mercs aboard shuttles to capture her. Garik wanted to try her commander, the man who had sentenced him into exile, as well as another ship to add to his personal fleet.

In the meantime, a rain of metal was lighting up the planet's atmosphere as the satellites and space stations that weren't destroyed outright were sent flaming down into oblivion.

Commander Hashona smiled as the persecution continued. Soon, his plan of revenge would move on to phase two....

Imperial Junction

"Having secured the outlying systems, it is now time to move on. Our scouts have reported a good looking planet at this position. It is well settled, and would prove beneficial to our plans of expansion. The Bream is on her way to a point just outside the system to launch viper probots. After the system is scouted, we will make our plans to move in accordingly." said Commodore Huey, looking at the other commanders scattered around the holotable.

A map of the nearby galaxy showed mostly blanks, as most of the unknown regions was still unexplored. However, a few systems showed up, including the system that they were in, as well as that of Koornacht cluster. Also, Subaria was another nitch filled in, with Mendrosia not too far away from that one as well.

None of the commanders disagreed with Huey. They too had tired of all the patrolling and waiting that had been needed to ensure that no more remnants of the enemy bandit fleet had remained, and were eager to begin exploring and hunting again....

The Frigate Bream

Captain Hoskana had his first command on his hands, having graduated from the academy at Rachuk just two years previous. He was a model officer, as most who come out of those acadamies are for their first few years in the service, until they learn to develop their own tatics and get into the groove of being a commanding officer. The frigate he commanded was also new, comissioned from Imperial shipyards in the Corellian sector, one of the newer Stalwart class ships. The metal construct bristled with turbolasers and ion cannons, and had an impressive array of starfighter type ships resting in it's hangar bays.

The captain's mission was a simple one. Proceed to a point in space to launch several of the newer model of Viper Probot droids to do a scouting of some of the local systems, and see which ones would be suitable for either settlement, or if it's already populated, conquest. If he were not under strict orders to return as soon as the droids had been launched, he may have been tempted to just go in himself and declare all of this territory to be under the control of the Empire. Having fought against pirates in the Outer-Rim, participating in mopping up operations against a smuggler ring that was causing havoc to the economies of the Isht and Diamalian empires, he was an overconfident commander.

"Realspace re-entry in one minute, captain." reported the navigator from his station on the bridge.

"Very well, stand by to cut in sublight engines. Attention crew, sound battlestations, code yellow, and prepare for the possibility of action upon reversion. Shields are to go full up upon reversion, and I want our offensive firepower ready to deal with any threat that may present it self." ordered the captain, hands clasped behind his back.

He could not help but feel a pang of pride as the alarms blared through out the ship, calling the soldiers to their action stations, and to them they went, without crowding the work areas or causing any incidents in doing so. At ten seconds to reversion, all of the action stations reported that they were ready, and all the space tight doors had been closed. Most of the alarms died down, except for the proximity and reversion warnings that everyone should strap down. Heeding their advice, the captian seated himself in his chair and strapped himself in.

Moments later the frigate shot from hyperspace, cutting through the cronau radiation and cutting into the fabric of space in the middle of what seemed to be nowhere. The ship's powerful scanners came online and swept back and forth, strobing the darkness for any threats or possible threats that might present themselves. An answer came immediatly to the crew aboard the ship that they were alone.

"Excellent. Open space tight doors, and launch the viper probots." ordered the captain, standing up from his chair to observe the action from the viewports.

The massive door on the side of the frigate slid open, and several small pods emerged from her belly, spreading out before pointing themselves in the proper direction. When they had aligned themselves perfectly, they flew off into the void, briefly entering hyperspace before gliding in at high speeds towards their targets.

With her mission accomplished, the Bream came about and entered hyperspace, heading back to a rendezvous with the small task force gathering for possible action near Imperial Junction....

Imperial Junction

With the last of the commanders having been assembled in the theatre, the lights were called to dimness, and a holoprojection table in the middle of the room lit up. A single man rose from one of the chairs to stand in front of the table, a pointer in hand.

"As you all know, expansion in this region is going according to plan. However, recent events have shown that we may have our first sign of civilized contact beyond the habital planets that we have been colonizing." spoke the commander, identified as Commodore Huey, temporary commander of what was coming to be known as the Imperial Expansion Protectorate.

"One of our viper probots was intercepted and destroyed before it could reach the planet in this system." he stated as he pointed to a now glowing star dot.

"A follow up probe scanned the system. From what information we were able to gather, the planet is well colonized and is apparently under attack from an external source. This external source has not been identified, however, they are using combat starships from the known galaxy. Included in the briefing package is the identification of a missing Republic-class star destroyer, and several high resolution pictures taken by the viper of Y-wing and I-7 starfighters flying around in the planet's orbit." reported Huey.

"In order to get a better picture of what exactly is going on, a relief mission will be launched to lift the siege, either by negotiation or by force, talks will take place between the aggressors, should they agree peacefully to our intervention, and the planet's inhabitants. It will be our goal to add the planet to our protectorate with a peaceful resolution. What we will not do is raze the planet to the ground." growled the commodore as he said this last.

One of his commanders had recently done just this to a small colony on a little planet on the edge of the expansion system. The colonists had refused to become part of the Empire, and had requested that they be either left alone in peace or allowed to pack up and move. The commander, perhaps having a bruised ego by their refusal, had volley fired his turbolasers from orbit and obliterated the colony, killing an estimated one thousand inhabitants. The commander had been relieved of his duties and was now awaiting a court-martial to determine his fate.

The new commander coming in was a Line captain, and would assume command of the task force in his stead.

"Let me introduce to you today Line Captain Marcus Cassius. He served as a commander of the ground troops under former Commander Burgoyne, and will be promoted for this occasion. Depending on his performance, he may be awarded a permanent command, should he so desire one. Captain Cassius, your command will be the Imperial Star Destroyer Mark V Dragon's Fang. Embarked upon it will be one hundred starfighters and several small transports with relief supplies as needed. The Rapier-II class gunships Hadrian and Korvan will provide a nominal escort. Your mission, one a former stormtrooper captain should be familiar with, will be shock and awe." ordered the commodore as he let the captain stand up and saw a few words if he wanted to....

Captain Cassius stood up from his position in the front row, nodding to Commodore Huey as he did so. "Thank you, sir. I intend to do my very best. All I need to know is when you want me to leave." Marcus had nothing else to say, and sat.

The Imperial Star Destroyer Dragon's Fang came out of lightspeed in a flicker of pseudomotion, followed by the Hadrian and the Korvan . On the bridge of the Fang , Captain Cassius stood alongside the captain of the Fang , Freyous. Marcus was in his black stormtrooper officer's uniform. He had little combat experience in space, and thus was just going to observe and let the man do his job. Facing the three Imperial vessels was a single Republic class Star Destroyer, who had just finished pounding the remaining orbital defenses to scrap. Captain Cassius turned to Freyous. "Captain, send this to the Hadrian and the Korvan : "Stand by but do not attack unless attacked first." Captain Freyson nodded and relayed the orders to the comms operator in the crewpit. Marcus then stared out the viewports at the Republic class Destroyer, not fifty kilometers distant. "Captain Freyson." He ordered. "Hail that vessel."

"Captain Cassius, sir. The vessel can hear us, even though they haven't yet aknoweleged the fact." "Good." Said Marcus, moving up to the comms station.
"Republic class Star Destroyer, this is the New Order Star Destroyer Dragon's Fang . I, Captain Cassius of the New Order, respectfully request to speak with your commanding officer." He hoped that tact and diplomacy would win through rather than having to blast the lot of them, even if he had to bow and scrape a little.

"Commander, Imperial ships are dropping out of hyperspace from our rear!" yelled out the sensors officer, sweat breaking out on his forehead as he glanced from his instruments to where the commander was walking in his direction.

"How many and what size?" demaned Hashona as he hurried to stand behind the sensors officer. He would see with his own eyes exactly what they are dealing with.

"Uh, I see three contacts total sir. One is large, bigger than an Imperial class, and the other two are smaller, I make them at about frigate sized." reported the sensors officer, leaning aside to let his boss have a better look at the screen.

"Commander, incoming communications signal from the enemy flagship." sang out the communications officer this time, signaling for Hashona's attention.

"Well, let's hear it!" roared out Hashona from across the bridge. Honestly, in a situation like this, they didn't have the time to waste running from one end of the bridge to the other.

The transmission came through....

Republic class Star Destroyer, this is the New Order Star Destroyer Dragon's Fang.I, Captain Cassius of the New Order, respectfully request to speak with your commanding officer."

'Most interesting' thought Line Commander Hashona. Apparently this Imperial didn't want a fight. Maybe he didn't have the stomach for one, or perhaps he was interesting in procuring some valuable allies...

The gears in his mind turning a million times a second, Hashona turned to the communications officer.

"Signal the escort frigate Punjari. Have her direct the planet's blockade and subjugation while we are off station." said Hashona to the communications officer. The man nodded, then went to work issueing the orders to the other vessel.

"Helsman, break orbit. Bring us on a path in the general direction of the Imperial armada. Have a pair of gunships form up around us. Communications, send a signal to the Imperial captain that we are accepting his invintation. As for the rest of you, sound general quarters, and prepare the battlestations for possible action." ordered Hashona as he prepared for the biggest possible gambit in his life.

He didn't know whether or not this Imperial commander would be a traitorous one, hoping to lure him out into an ambush, but he was staking about everything on the hopes of gaining a new and useful ally....

"Captain." The hoarse whisper caused Marcus's head to twist round and stride down the bridge, coming to a halt in front of the systems officer. "Sir, I'm getting engine flares from the Destroyer and two gunships around it. They're moving towards us." Freyous glanced to where Marcus was standing stroking his moustache, deep in thought. "Sir..." Started Freyous. "Hmm?" Answered Captain Cassius absentmindedly. "May I?" Freyous asked. "Of course, Captain. I'm merely here as a supervisor. However, please order the Korvan to break off and circle round, and to keep watch from the enemy's flank. She's powerful enough tho cause them a little trouble." Freyous aknoweledged and gave the order; immediatly the frigate turned to the left and powered off, stopping just far enough to be in range to help out in case these fellows got nasty. "Helm, turn us to meet that Destroyer. Gunnery control, power up turbolasers. Fighter Command, crews on yellow alert. General alert for possible action" The aknowledgements came quickly, and Freyous leaned upright and cast a quick glance out the viewport at the approaching Destroyer.

Marcus was standing watching the Star Destroyer when the Communications officer, not a meter away, spun round in his chair. "Message from the Destroyer!" Marcus wheeled and walked over to the man. "Let's hear it." The comms officer glanced away from the screen to catch Captain Cassius's expression. Calm and composed. "Yes, sir."

This is the Republic-class Star Destroyer Vendetta. [I]We accept your invitation." The message was clear, with only a little nervousness behind it. Captain Cassius smiled. "Glad to hear it, Vendetta. However," He siad, his voice hardening just slightly, "You shall cease your bombardment of Primoria immedietly so we may talk. If not, you must be prepared to accept the consequences of Imperial..." He let the word hang- "...displeasure."

Garik listened to the extra message added to the end of the statement, and his eyes hardened slightly as it seemed that the Imperials would be seeking to deny him his revenge against his people.

He turned his head to look to his subordinates, and his eyes sought out the fleet control officer.

"Are any of our ships still engaged in bombardement activities?" demanded Garik.

"Some of our Y-wings and I-7s are still bombing and strafing stardock facilites in various cities on the planets." responded the fleet control officer with a nervous voice.

"Call them off for now. Have them standby in lower orbit to await for further instructions." ordered Hashona as he paced around on the bridge, the gears in his mind turning a million revolutions a minute.

He stopped his pacing, and turned to the communications officer, letting a slight sigh escape from his lips.

"Open a communications channel to that star destroyer." ordered Hashona.

"The line is now open sir. You are free to speak." responded the communications officer after a moment's delay.

"Attention Imperial commander. I have respected your wishes for any remaining bombardements to cease. However, it appears to me that we have a problem in not knowing one another's intentions. While it may appear that I am a pirate or warlord, let me assure you, in person, that my intentions are honorable." informed Hashona.

"I am also curious about your intentions as well. May we have the pleasure of hosting you aboard my flagship? You don't have to answer right away, please take at least five minutes to debate. Commander Hashona out." said the commander, making a cutting move with his right hand for the communications officer to sever the link.

Tired of walking around, Hashona went over to his captain's chair and collapsed into it, rubbing his eyes and forehead with his hand.

Marcus smiled as the message came through. He Walked slowly up the bridge viewport, thinking. Striding swiftly down again, he leaned over the communications officer's shoulder and spoke. "Commander Hashona. I am quite sure of your good intentions. However, why not join me aboard the Dragon's Fang ? The New Order would be more that happy to acommodate you and your men."

Commander Hashona listened to the Imperial's message, his teeth gritting slightly as it ended. Well, that was one possible path down the drain. If the Imperial commander wouldn't come aboard, then he wouldn't be able to take them hostage or feel the comfort of having the Imperial talk to him on his home field, the ship that he knew and felt comfortable in.

Still, if he didn't do something, things could get very violent very quickly. He felt as if he was being backed into a corner, and he didn't like feeling trapped like this. A million options ran through his mind a minute, as he discarded some, and held others into the far recesses of his mind.

Finally he came up with a possible solution, one that he didn't like very much at all, as he had heard the tales of Imperial torture and the like from a number of people that he had talked with. But if he was to preserve his hide and possibly still accomplish his mission, the goals that he had set before him, then he would have to meet with the Imperial commander, at his own invintation.

He paced back and forth as he considered how he was going to go about this. Finally, he settled on a plausible course of action that, while not garaunteeing his own survival, at least meant that there was a good chance that the Imperial would go down with him.

He turned to his subordinates.

"All right men, listen up. I am accepting the Imperial commander's invintation to meet aboard his flagship. If I am not back in one hour, I want you to attack that star destroyer with everything you have. Failure will not be dealt with at all." ground out Hashona between gritted teeth.

His crew looked at him with widened eyes, pale skin, and short breath before one, then another, then most of them, nodded their heads or murmured words of assent.

"Good." was all Hashona had to say in response, before heading over to the communications station.

"Attention, Captain Cassius. I have decided to accept your hospitality of accepting me and my men aboard your flagship. We will transfer over imminently." said Hashona, before jabbing the comm silent.

"I want a pair of bodyguards, armed to the teeth. The Imperials will no doubt confiscate our weapons, but I want a visible presence of strength when we arrive. Prepare my personal shuttle, and designate a pair of I-7 howlrunners as a nominal escort. Let's get busy people, we don't have time to waste." ordered Hashona as he departed the bridge and headed down to his personal quarters to change into more appropriate wear.
