Return of the Wraiths - Wayland

The Director of the New Republic's secret service had decided some time ago that one of the best assets within the republic itself were the advanced fighter squadrons. They had proven themselves time and again far more useful than any other one force. So, logically, he came to the conclusion that it was time to breath new life into the fighter ranks.

Wraith Squadron, formerly led by Wedge Antillies, had been decomissioned some time ago. Now, however, it was time for the Wraiths to return to full and active duty. Nathaniel would choose from the Republic ranks men and women who served the essence of what the Wraiths were originally meant to be. A last chance stop on the way out.

Originally this idea had proven most fruitful and many of those who were chosen not only managed to stay in the military but served the Republic unlike any others. Their honor and courage would be remembered and set as a standard for those following them.

Nathaniel had set up base on Wayland, an out of the way planet from which he could launch assaults or counter assaults on the encroching Empire. They needed to fight back, lest they wither and die off.

Many canidates were chosen to attend this historic meeting of pilots and rogues, however, only eleven would be chosen. One already had been. A Jedi by the name of Anakin Skywalker. He showed up some three days before the others and had proven himself in more ways than one. Nathaniel had little choice but to place him second in command of Wraith Squadron.

Once the meeting had concluded itself, the Wraiths would be perminently assigned to the Victory Class Star Destroyer which would serve as a mobile base of operations. From that vantage the Wraiths would launch wave after wave of assaults on the Empire and their supporters. No longer would the Republic stand idle while the Empire attacked it's worlds and people. No longer would they sit and watch. Now was the time for action.

Nathaniel had met with each canidate personally and privately. So far he had chosen ten out of the many he had invited. Most had the same stories. Each was in trouble for pushing the limits to far, show boating, hot dogging, and otherwise risking life and limb far more often than they should have.

These were the kind of men and women he wanted.

This last canidate, however, was a new story all together. He had never flown for the New Republic before. Infact, this would be his first assignment with the New Republic at all. Soon he would see exactly what he was up against.

He looked to the door.

"Send in... Skywalker."

The name alone inspired awe but Nathaniel would not let that get to him. He needed to know if this boy was ready. He need to know what to make of him, exactly.
