-----------------------------------

In the middle of a town in the middle of the dunes of Tatooine, a gentle arm reached out from under it's bright white cloak, commandeered by a large muscular man, hidden under a hood, softly caressing the side of the large Ronto beast in front of it, resulting in the rapid calming of the previously terrified four-legged beast of burden.

The tall hooded figure let a smile of sympathy for the beast escape through his lips as he comforted it with his presence. Some nearby thuggish-looking humanoids, of various alien races, quietly observed the hooded man, watching his every move. He could sense them watching him, and yet while he was uncertain what they were planning behind their thick skulls, he was confident in his judgement and abilities. The hooded figure turned towards the aliens, who were now slowly amounting to a higher amount, whispering and plotting amongst themselves. They all silenced and peered towards the hooded man as he turned to them, some terrified, some in awe, and some anxious, anticipating what will happen next.

Tilting his head back slightly, the hooded man deliberately reveals only a grin to the aliens, as his long, dark blonde hair suspends from his forehead, hiding his face, just before he turns and departs quickly, walking at a fast pace in the opposite direction of the aliens.

The alien, whom was apparently the leader of their little clique, took offense to this. It was a Rodian. Yes, the leader was a skinny little Rodian, equipped with dual pistols; one on each side of his waist. He murmured something to his posse of aliens, all of whom were either bounty hunters, or thugs. They all picked up a fairly quick pace, chasing after the tall, white-cloaked hooded figure, apparent to them to be a human.

He turned a corner at a nearby shop, and the heard followed. He knew they were coming.

"Eh? Where did the human go?" An alien in the middle of the group exclaimed as they turned the corner, finding no hooded man.

"Look!" A deep, cracked voice cried from the back of the group, and he pointed towards a white hooded figure off behind them; not even near where they saw the human go. "There he is!"

Then, simultaneously, getting too excited for their own good, they chased after the white figure, who had undertaken an entirely different pace, much slower than that of before.

************

Kurt Night sat at the side of the same shop soon after, bearing a gleeful smile on his handsome face, his white cloak lying beside him.

With a humorous giggle, he watched on as the group of aliens, eluded by himself, ran over to a decrepped old lady, who was wrapped in white robes, and were dumbfounded when the old lady attacked the leading Rodian with her harmless baggage. Kurt couldn't help but laugh at the embarressed visages, coming from the faces of thugs and bounty hunters.

He had been sent here by his Jedi supremes on a final mission before his graduation to Knighthood, because they had sensed a disturbance in the force on this desert of a planet; Tattooine. It was his favorite planet, though. Well at least out of the ones that he had been to. He enjoyed scorching hot weather.

It hurt him to admit to himself that he enjoyed being away from the Jedi Order for a little while. While he loved, treasured, enjoyed, and was proud to be a man of the Jedi Order, it was hard work, and it was only human to enjoy a day or two off. Since there was no direct way for him to approach a "Disturbance in the Force", as they say, he figured he would do some looking around, have some fun, and enjoy the time off, as he was already doing.

Little did he know, that would not last too long...

Tattooine. A barren place if there ever was one. Full of sand, sand, and more sand. Occasionally a womp rat or a bantha, maybe a kryat dragon if you were lucky - or not so lucky. A few scattered settlements. And moisture farms.

Mira had no idea why she had been sent here. Apparently the Sith thought this place to be of some importance, though she couldn't see why. What could a few moisture farmers do for the Sith? But hers was not to question why. So now she sat idly in the spaceport of Mos Eisley, waiting for...something.

Meanwhile, the local cantinas should provide a bit of sport. The last time she had been here, it had been with her old Master, Corran Horn. She'd been young, then, only thirteen, and he hadn't let her into some of the rougher places. She'd been told that she wasn't old enough and left with the speeders. Now, though, she was able to fend for herself. And a drink sounded pretty good, anyway. Something to fend off the dreadful heat.

Her home planet of Dathomir was nothing like this. Neither was Naboo, the place of the Jedi Temple. Come to think of it, even Xa Fel and Korriban were preferable to all this heat and sand. Ugh.

As she entered the cantina, the first hint of its nature was the smell. The place reeked of dirty dishware and sentient filth. The second was the Bith band on stage playing a tune that had been outdated fifty years previous. Several of the aliens turned to look at the girl in black leather, and a few made suggestive comments. One of the humans reached out to grab her rear, but a single look stopped him. She wasn't that type of girl.

Striding to the bar, she warded off a few alien and human advances. She ordered a brandy, got her drink, and wandered to a table in hopes of enjoying some time alone. It was not to be. A Rodian burst through the door, jabbering about some disappearing man. She rolled her eyes as he strutted up to her table.

"You lookin' for somethin', green thing?" she asked.

The alien jabbered in his language. A lot of jabbering. "Yeah, well, you are green," she responded. "And no, I haven't seen a white-robed human. Heck, I haven't seen robes like you're describing since..." her voice trailed off. Truth was, she hadn't seen robes like that since her time at the Jedi Temple. Wonderful. A Jedi here would be like icing on a very, very bad cake. If the Jedi recognized her, she'd have to kill it. And she really wasn't in the mood for a fight like that.

Kurt concluded that he was done giggling at the aliens' foolishness. He stood, his beautiful lightsaber dangling at the side of his waist, and disrobed his brown robe, which was hidden under his usually worn white robe. Just so he wouldn't attract any extra attention, he donned his white robe first, and then his brown robe, hiding the white one.

Feeling it would be best to lay low at a cantina, he stepped under the automatic door to a nearby cantina, and quickly strided, making a quick attempt not to attract attention.

He looked over to his right, as he sat at the counter, and noticed the Rodian that had been tracking him down only moments before. He grinned, and turned his attention to the bartender.

"Yes, um..." Kurt began, looking around. "Give me something big, but make sure it is not strong."

The bartender eyed him suspiciously, cleaning out a small pitcher in his hands.

"Sure, pal." The bartender replied, as he readied Kurt's beverage. "Here ya go." He handed Kurt a large mug, full of a dark blue liquid. Kurt took a sip, then sat silently, seemingly unnoticed.

The entrance of a stranger distracted the conversing pair, though for different reasons. To the Rodian, the human was of the same build as the robed man he'd been chasing. But there were no robes, so his attention quickly returned to the human female. Mira, however...

Stang, he looks familiar! she thought to herself. Where have I seen him before? Then it hit her. His presence in the Force. It preceded him to the bar, and she recognized it. She quickly cloaked her own presence as best she could and, quietly, slipped into the shadows at the rear of the cantina.

He's a Jedi from the Academy! she thought. Why is he here? He could ruin everything! She moved as best she could towards the entrance, a flurry of thoughts running through her mind. If he noticed her now, all hell would break loose in the cantina. She couldn't afford that. She had a mission here, even if she didn't know what it was, and if her cover was blown, she'd lose her greatest asset - the element of surprise.

Fortunately for her, the Jedi was preoccupied with his drink and didn't notice the leather-clad female slipping out the door, at least not while he was still in view. When she exited the building, she slipped around to the side, once again in the shadows, and thought for a minute. A Jedi here could ruin everything. Or perhaps...

While Mira wasn't the strongest Sith in the ways of the Force (she was still an apprentice, after all), she had other strengths that came from living in the Dathomiri wilderness for half a standard year. One was an ability to remember details. As such, the Jedi's face was burned into her mind as he looked at the Rodian. She reviewed that face now, trying to place it.

There it was. In the Academy. A Padawan, like herself, but this one had a Master at the time. She had seen him several times, and they had spoken briefly once or twice. What was his name...Kurt. That was it. Quickly she reviewed what she knew, which wasn't much. He was a Padawan who was fairly strong, had a good Master, was steeped in the ways of the Light Side. He had also nearly reached the rank of Knight. Stang. She was in trouble.

If it came to a fight, she would need to use every weapon she had, and that included her head. And it would probably come to a fight if she sat where she was much longer. Recognizing that, she quickly rose and headed off towards her hotel. It was a ratty joint, but it would hopefully allow her some time to think.

Kurt noticed out of the corner of his eye, a woman rising quickly and leaving. He tried to pay no attention, but he could feel something fowl was brewing in this small, run of the mill cantina.

He got to his feet and decided he would follow. As vague as the feeling was, it was there. He followed the stranger out of the cantina, but was then lost. The stranger was nowhere to be seen. Kurt sighed, and sat near the entrance to the cantina.

Mira sat in her hotel room, thinking. What the kriff was that kriffing Jedi doing here? she asked herself. I can't see why he would come to Tatooine, unless it's one of those self-exploration missions they seem so fond of. Perhaps a trip to Ben Kenobi's old place? Master Horn had at one time suggested that she make a trip to the planet for just such a purpose. Supposedly there was some sort of enlightenment to be gained from the journey. Mira had never gone.

If that's the case, though, why is he on this side of the planet? Kenobi's place was at least a quarter-revolution away, near the Dune Sea. Then a thought occured to her. What if he's tracking me? The idea rocked her. No. It's not possible. The Jedi have no idea if I'm even alive. They wouldn't send someone after me. But then again, Jedi did have that uncanny ability to sense disturbances in the Force. Perhaps it wasn't her they were after. Perhaps it was simply an exploration.

Well, if it's an exploration he wants, then that's what he'll get, she thought. The Jedi would have to die. No doubt about it. But Mira wasn't the strongest in a straight-up fight. Ambushes, yes, quick strikes, of course, but a straight on duel, especially with a near-Knight, was a problem.

"Time to go hunting," she said to herself.

The first order of business was to make herself inconspicuous. The lightsaber would have to be hidden for the time being, and a blaster would work. Draping a dark-colored robe over her shoulders (not a Sith robe, as that would have been obvious), she hooked her lightsaber to her belt in the small of her back. She'd have to be careful when sitting, but it was worth it to have the protection. A holster containing an old DH-17 went on the belt as well, mostly for show.

She was lucky that she still hadn't taken to the robes that seemed ubiquitous among the Sith. Her leather jumpsuit would be perfect for this. Now all she had to do was find that Jedi and follow him without letting him know she was there. Not the easiest of feats, but after her time in the wilderness of Dathomir, she had become fairly adept at cloaking her presence. She hadn't wanted any of her sisters to find her, and giving off a Force signature would have done that, so she had learned to conceal it.

Heading out of the hotel, she reviewed her plan once more. Find Kurt. Follow him and establish his routine. Find a place where he's alone and wait. When he comes, ambush him. Strike him and run. Whatever you do, don't linger. He'll kill you.

Then another thought surfaced. Just before Mira had left Xa Fel, she had spoken to Darth Necros, asking him what her mission was going to be. He had replied, cryptically, that it would find her. She hadn't understood then, but now...What if he meant that I was supposed to kill the Jedi?
