Counterstrike (SCE - Anobis, Ord Mantell)
  • Posted On: Apr 7 2003 8:43pm
(OOC: this RP runs concurrent to any which happen during the SCE/MCR battles)

Four jumps and the detection shake was complete. A small task force hung motionless in space, the white of a nearby star illuminating their otherwise murky vestige. All the ships where painted a nauseating combination of grey, and black – resulting in a color that was difficult to see unless you were within fifty kilometers. Invisible shafts of communication waves bounced back and forth instantaneously between all the ships. Orders, which had been given, were being discussed via LOS communication.

It only took four minutes for everything to be arranged. Briefing had been thorough, and the crews were experienced; if somewhat undisciplined. They knew their way around these ships, for the last year these ships had been home to each of these men.

With a slow deliberateness, two of the more delicate looking cruisers broke off from the rest, and began to ease their way to the front of the formation. Three small, dagger shaped ships followed, moving nimbly to the forefront of the new taskforce. The dagger ships stretched, and disappeared. Moments later the delicate cruisers followed, their thin midriff becoming even thinner as their hyperdrives thrust them forward.

The original taskforce was now substantially smaller, after all, it had not been the large to begin with. Four more of the dagger-like craft flew out, and ignited their engines. They moved to the front, and with a lung, disappeared one at a time into hyperspace.

The remaining group lay still, LOS communication lines open.

Aboard the Justice

“It is certain then, that Ord Mantell was annexed by this new group of Chiss?” The speaker was a Bith, his head large and white, his eyes large and black. Instead of the usual talent for music, this Bith had found tactics to be his performance in life.

“Perfectly sure. Our last Infiltrator scout informed us that the government has been changed. There was a large fleet presence engaged in “peace time training”. Riots broke out all over the planet because of this “training”. Then, after the government had been changed – the fleet left.”

The Bith sighed, and stood from his large chair. “No defenses?” His voice was low, hardly hearable.

“Quite correct, no defenses.”

Silence took to the airwaves, and all present waited for the Bith to speak. All but the Bith were in the dark about their mission. After a few moments, he indulged them. “Taskforce Premonition is going to Anobis, then to Ord-Mantell. Intelligence indicates that these two neighboring worlds are completely defenseless – the Chiss having arrived, changed the government, put some troops into place, and left.”

“ Why the Chiss have suddenly decided to emerge from their shell is unknown. What we do know is that they usually abhor war. This group seems to delight in it. Not only have they completely annexed several planetary systems; rumor says they have made landings on other planets as well. And then, we have their current attack on the Calamari people. We also have information that leads us to believe the new Chiss admiral is not truly what he appears to be. That information is classified beyond the top.”

“Any questions?”

“Ah, yes, I have one” Attention turned to the human who had spoken.

“My Infiltrators, the four that left seperatly. I was not informed where they were headed”

“I was not informed either. They gave override codes, available only from the High Government.”

“Covert then”

“As usual, any more questions?”

There were none, and the Bith returned to his chair. “Inform me when Premonition arrives at Anobis”

After this a long pause began, during which all but one aid left the Bith’s quarters. Nothing was said, no sound flexed an eardrum. Then the Bith sighed once, and looked at his Aid through his large, black eyes. “It’s almost like a song, isn’t it?”

“Yes Admiral, it is.”

"Sir, we've got a situation..." the human said as he sat up from his command chair, overlooking the holographic display of the Anobis System. His lips quivered with anticipation and excitement

"What's the problem?" The Secretary General stood ominously, runnign his coarse fingers through his parched beard as he squinted at the display. His obease stomach preceeded him as he stepped forward.

"Unidentified warships have been detected by out outlaying sensor arrays approaching the Anobis system, General. The signal is faint.... we have no idea what class they are."

The General nodded. "Coalition no doubt. According to General Nouran, the Battle for Mon Calamari started two hours ago. They are likely launching a pathedic excuse for a counterstrike. No matter." his voice remained perfectly calm, and collected. "Inform the System Patrol Fleets to prepare for the enslaught."

Crinium frowned at the reports coming in from Anobis and Ord Mantell. So the Sovereign Chiss Empire was under attack and requesting backup. Well, they were allies.

"Signal the fleet. I want Red Dog and Battle Dog fully loaded up with TIE Defenders. Red Dog will be under the command of General Mars, they are heading off to Ord Mantell. Battle Dog will be under my command, I want it at Anobis. Also, fifteen Sentenial Shuttles will accompany each fleet."

Crinium rushed to a shuttle, and it blasted off to meet the Aegis Star Cruiser Mark II, Battle Dog, in orbit around Farquak. As soon as he was onboard, he rushed towards the bridge. Hitting his com he yelled into it.

"All fighters, load onto your assigned ship. Plot a course to Anobis. Jump once the Sentenial Shuttles are ready, and the fighters are onboard."

Crinium continued to run, and felt the ship shudder as it entered hyperspace. He was on his way to Anobis, to save the Sovereign Chiss Empire, the ally of the Farquak Empire.

This was a momentus day for K'taruuk and the drones under his command. Today was the first act that would solidify his efforts up to now in his secret negotiations between himself and Emperor Xilen. He'd had enough of sitting by on the sidelines while his leader "went fourth" in his damed adventures to rediscover and reunite his people. Little did he know that K'taruuk was forging a secret pact which would ensure the safety and prosperity of his people for eons to come. This was the seal on the envelope.

The three vessel flotilla soared over the horizon of Anobis as the system's star sneeked over the horizon shining up from behind them. From the surface below a force of just over one hundred strong starfighters flew into formationg with the three ships in orbit, and the combined battlegroup soared off and joined the waiting chiss defense forces.

"Shields up, charge all weapons, and signal the chiss commanders . . .we are ready."

The hyperjump had been pleasantly short, just a matter of minutes to be precise. Task force Premonition reverted to real space in an elongated blur, the two Nebulon B cruisers flying wide, with the Infiltrator craft staying low, in the middle. Having reverted, the Nebulon’s did a single ping full spectrum sensor sweep, killed their engines, and began to run silent. LOS communication lines opened for a few brief transmissions, and the Infiltrators lit their engines up.

Upon ignition the arrow-like ships were thrust forward, all twenty-six meters instantly out of sight. Within five seconds from engine ignition, they disappeared off of the Nebulon sensor displays.

Aboard the Forefront

“So we are not as alone here as were led to believe.”

“No, Sir, there appears to be quite a force guarding these planets.”

“Launch a shuttle, send it on a three jump course back to the main fleet with our sensor logs from the ping. They will be able to examine the sweep better than we can here. All ships continue to run silent. Inform engineering that we may need the use of our engines on a hair’s notice, so stay alert. While we wait for orders you can have science examine a copy of the ping”

“The Infiltrators have cloaked Sir, shall I begin the countdown?”

“Yes.”

“Two minute countdown started”

And the Nebulon’s lay still, on the outer reaches of the Anobis system.

"Commander?" Spoke an ensign.

"Yes what is it?"

"We're recieving an encoded transmission from the Chiss central command."

"Run it through the decryption sequencer."

"Yes sir, decrypting now . . .

. . .

. . .

Decryption complete. Its a warning sir."

"What?" Exclaimed Ktaruuk.

"We are to vacate all forces from this sector immediately."

"Is the message authentic?"

"Yes, it has emperor Xilen's clearance code attachment."

K'taruuk paused, locking his forward into the void ahead.

"Then we withdraw."

"Sir surely they will take anobis if we,"

"We leave now ensign! That is an order."

"Yes sir." Gulped the young officer.

"Set course for the contingency coordinates, recall all fighters, as soon as we're far enough away, initiate hyperspace jump.

I'll be in my quarters."

K'taruuk's talons clicked violently against the polished deck as he swiftly strode off of the bridge and out of the system.

"How long untill we come out of hyperspace at Anobis?"

"Five minutes."

"Excellent. Prepare to power up shields and to launch fighters."

"Sir, incoming message from the Chiss, via Farquak."

"What is it?"

"We are to ignore the threat presented at Ord Mantell and Anobis and return to Farquak."

"@#%$. What a waste. Signal Red Dog. Drop out of hyperspace and immediatly turn around and return to Farquak."

"Yes sir."

Battle Dog and Red Dog dropped out of hyperspace, turned around, and returned to Farquak. Crinium left the bridge and walked to his quarters, mumbling about the wasted fuel.

Task Force Premonition

“Five, four, three, two, one. Two-minute countdown complete. Beginning five minute, twenty second countdown… now.”

The bridge of the Forefront was tense, every man doing his duties while attempting to hear what was said everywhere else on the bridge. They all waited for the order they all knew was coming next.

“On my mark, we will have been present here for two minutes, thirty seconds. Two, one, mark. Sensors, do another ping.”

The team of men at the sensor consoles replied affirmative, and began to prepare for the second scanner sweep. It did not take long; the data coming in was not decoded, simply stored for future reference.

“Render a map on the main display”

Slowly, line-by-line, a battle map of the Anobis system was rendered. For two minutes the captain stood gazing upon the image, as it became larger, then ever shaper – more distinct.

“Quite a little force they have here, is it not?”

“Yes sir. I would say two five hundred meter capital ships. This here looks like a Nebulon. Hard to tell if it is a first, or second generation. Swarms of fighters…
Oh, look. These are not fighters, probably gunboats of some sort. Looks like around twenty, twenty five of them.”

“Sensors, delete everything that is not in orbit around Anobis from the view screen. High resolution zoom on the craft surrounding the planet, do not render the planet.”

“Aye aye sir.”

A minute later a high-resolution sensor display of the planet Anobis was available for viewing by the entire bridge crew. After several minutes of silent examination, a voice rose.

“On my mark, the five minute and thirty second countdown will have completed. Five, four, three, two, one. Mark. Two minute countdown beginning… now.”

Silence returned, as everyone studied the tactical display.

“Ten”

The air on the bridge of the Forefront was charged with static electricity, as the countdown for their third, and final period was ticked off by an ensign.

“Nine”

They had been present in the Anobis system for almost nine minutes, and short-range sensors had picked up no other drives, or micro jumps. So far, so good.

“Eight”
“Seven”
“Six”
“Five”
“Four”
“Three”
“Two”

“Sir, one Infiltrator has de-cloaked off our port bow”

“One”

“The other two have de-cloaked as well, all off the port bow”

Another crewman spoke up. “Infiltrator sensor data copied.”

The captain stood, and cleared his throat. “Prepare for third, and final ping. On my mark… three, two, one, mark”

This sensor ping was the loudest, and it took a full twenty three seconds to retrieve all the data. Their task complete, Premonition force began a slow arc, and exited into hyperspace. Their schedule said three jumps to shake any followers, before they met at the rendezvous.
