A Slowed Start

Throughout all these years she knew she was different, not like the other Twi'lek, now nearing the ripe age of twenty she was longing for something more. She discovered the force within her at a time of great peril. Her family, a nomadic group of musicians, set up camp one night on the road on the open plains of Arissi of Dantooine on their way to a job in a remote village, aliens to this planet. The pirate factions on the planet although were out of control. Running untamed over the landscape they pillaged whoever crossed their path, tonight they found Kerra's family.
They had all turned in for the night except for Kerra, who amidst the wilderness felt at peace. Meditating upon a larger cliff she noticed movement far off, a strange feeling flowing throughout her body. She sprang to her feet at once moving with an agility unnatural to most of the Twi'lek species as she moved down the large rock face.

Coming into her family's camp site she moved to her brother's tent, she tried to wake him but she was too late. Blaster fire went off in the distance, heard piercing her mother and father's tent. Both she and her brother sprang to their feet to find a pair of men wearing light leather armor/clothing. The criminals aimed their carbines towards the brother and sister, corralling them away from the tents, under watch of one of the men. As the second silently went to check the other tent, he was surprised as Kerra's father emerged with a dagger in hand charging at the pirate with a ferocious rage. The ranged weapon being too fast for the aging man, he fell upon the quick laser blasts. Kerra’s mother came from the tent with a speed Kerra had not witnessed in the past.

A mesmerizing thing happened, an instance in which everyone was somewhat trapped in a state of wonder. Her mother, Tona, had unsheathed a short metal shaft, summoning a blade which had a haunting yellow glow to it. The aging woman moved with unreal speed, volleying the crimina''s own carbine fire back towards him. Eventually one found its mark and Tona moved in a run towards Kerra and her brother; Ven. Repelling the second man’s fire Kerra’s mother came within range of him and with a single slash chopped his right arm off his body. Although they felt safe they were far from it. Lowering the blade of the lightsaber Tona began to walk forward to her children when she stopped dead in her tracks.

Motioning her hand forward with an open palm the mother sent her children off with an invisible wind, in actuality it was force push. Tona herself attempted to jump back but not but a foot from the ground she was knocked back into a tree. The culprit was a concussion rifle, only the most adept force users could repel its powerful blast and even that was rare. The last pirate had obviously not seen either Kerra or Ven’s location as the man walked carefully out of the shadows with the large concussion rifle in his hand. Ven ran out with a terrible rage, unable to control his actions as he tried to take down the killer of his mother. He was shot as he ran towards the attacker, sent hurling over Kerra.

Now alone facing an armed adversary she dove behind a tree with a shot in quick tow. On the other side of the tree she found the lightsaber her mother dropped after being hit with the powerful blast. Finding a single button on the side the golden aura flowed from the shaft once more, Kerra being guided by a higher being within her. She with great focus threw the saber straight at the last criminal, it impaling his torso. It shut itself off and dropped. After being sure no one was left able to attack her in the wake of this tragedy she walked towards the saber stopping on the way. As she went over to check on the fallen criminals a strange necklace entranced her. It was a single pyramid strung around a chain, around the pirates neck it glowed with a dark red sheen; wrenching it off the corpse she put it into her own pocket. She felt a new life force stirring within her. The force guided her decision once again as she attempted to grab to the lightsaber. With a short movement of her hand backwards the metal shaft took flight being caught with her right hand.

Feeling something behind her she turned to see a shimmering blue glow near a body which lay on the ground, amidst several trees. She rushed to it at once, her emotions almost out of control as she saw the contorted arm her mother lay crippled on the ground with.

Tona ~ “Kerra, you must listen to me. You have the force within you as do I. It was foolish of me to deny you instruction in it but it was much too dangerous in these times of the Empire. My time is nearly done but when the moment is right I will appear to guide you in your own meditation to connect to the force. My lightsaber will still function for you, only you will need a certain crystal which colors your blade and provides the energy for the devastating weapon. In my tent you will find a black chest which has been sealed with the power of the force. Your innate connection should allow you to open it and within it leads you the various branches of the force, holocrons created by myself on my own teachings from the famed Jedi Order. Be strong my Daughter.”

As a tear streaked down Kerra’s face she watched as her mother closed her eyes, disappearing in the haunting blue glow of the force, in spectral form now. Turning her attention to the box she carried it off with her as she left the sight of the disgusting display of needless death, the emotional scars deep. Stopping atop a plateau after hiking for what seemed hours she stopped and sat upon the high cliff. After a couple days of constant meditation couple with occasional searching for food she had awakened an ancient talent unlike anything she had experience before. The box Kerra’s mother left her with contained two crystals, one purple and the second blue. Not hesitating for a moment Kerra chose the purple crystal, the force guiding her once more as she repaired her mother’s saber and began her training.

Months had passed and the recent awakened Jedi was now set to travel from the unforgiving Dantooine landscape and make a new life for herself with her new abilities. She had become quite adept in the force grasp and could use the force to manipulate the weak-minded to follow her will. In her time meditating she had been able to craft a simple lightsaber, copying the style of her mother’s. There was a downside to her lone training as she knew no guidelines when experimenting with the force. Her aggressive attack style with the lightsaber touched upon her fear in moments, a calling to the dark side. She had also honed her ability to defend against most force powers she was familiar with. She had awakened an ability not found in her mother’s holocron or in her spectral form’s tutelage. Kerra could surround herself with an aura of the force which would absorb and protect against the corruption of the force. Now with her own lightsaber at her side she ventured forth to expand her knowledge of the force. A student of the force, ever seeking knowledge.
