E for Excellent.
I love movies that make you think... that are so scary not because they are litterally frigthening but because they could actually happen. Not that anything like this will ever happen (although I'm sure someone will post in ths thread arguing it already has happened :p )
If you liked Denzeil Washington's remake of the Manchurian Candidate, then you will like this movie.
Some will decry this movie for being too cerebral... for lacking a constant supply of violence and action. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of violence, but for many casual moviegoers the pace will be too slow.
Anyway, I am very interested to see what our resident Brits have to say about the film (assuming its playing in England.)
And I wonder why they didn't wait until Novemeber to release it...

heh...actually, this film has intrigued me, I have not seen it yet, but a few friends and I shall do so soon.
Let you know when we do.

The movie has already been delayed for months. IIRC, it was supposed to be released last November, but because of the IRL London bombings they didn't.
I plan on seeing it this evening. Has anyone else read the Graphic Novel it's based off of? I quite enjoyed the story there, though I thought the art was a bit constrained.

I haven't read the graphic novel, but I must say that this movie is awesome. I have to go see it again.

Anyone care to give a plot summary minus too many spoilers? My friend got a bunch of free movie tickets so a group of us were planning on going, we just don't know what movie. Since this one seems to be getting good reviews from TRF, I figure it might be one to watch.

The year is 2020.
England has become a psuedo-police state, controlled by a "faith based" political party which rose to power in the wake of a devestating terror strike.
A masked terrorist, V, channels some famous British history to use as the ideological rallying cry for resistance.
Some interesting action sequences, cool knife fighting, enough gratitious violence to satisfy me personally. Interesting allusions to "the world situation" playing out of the US war in Iraq. And some cool wordplay. :p
Its worth it.

I just saw it last night. It's pretty heavy-handed with its political message, which disappointed me. The novel was very subtle and required you to pay attention and do some thinking and observation while reading. This didn't. It was like being beaten with a political-party stick repeatedly, if you know what I mean.
But, that's typical Hollywood. They took a dirty, gritty, smart graphic novel and turned it into a slick smooth produced film.
Also, I think they could have gone to the three-hour length easily enough. For those of you who have not read the comic, you may want to see the film twice. Or read the book after-- the book is quite good.
SPOILER ALERT! Highlight to read. They managed to ax an incredibly important part! In the book Eve looks at the dead V and thinks about taking his mask off. She imagines taking it off and seeing her father. She imagines taking it off and seeing her mother. She imagines taking it off and seeing herself. That's when she realizes that V was preparing her to take his position. In the novel, right after the bombing of parliament V appears on the rooftop of a building and says "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated". The entire point of the story was that there are destroyers, and there are builders. V was a destroyer, he knew that. He trained Eve, broke her, released her, and showed her in his own obscure manner that once he was dead, she was to take over the symbol of V and help rebuild England.
I can't understand why they nixed that. Without that little bit of info, tons of the movie makes no sense at all. The whole "I came from fire and was cleansed, you do it in the rain" sequence is pointless, for one...

Sounds like a good contender. Now all I have to worry about is being grounded still....
