Something I enjoyed:
Had the Mongolian Khan Ogedei not die when he did, civilization would be ruined. I commented to Ahnk about this before, to my chagrin. Ogedei was the second great Khan, son of Ghengis, it was his death that drew Batu back to the capital. For all of the, I can't remember the proper word so I'll just refer to them as the higher ups, must return back to Daidu for burial. Batu had already defeated the massed European army to prevent Mongol invasion (1237-1241). Had Ogedei not died Batu would have undoubtedly conqured a defensless Europe, and the spread of Chinese buracracy would have followed it. While it was the pride of the chinese government it was a major hinderance to learning and progress thus would have been squelched all new developments across all the known world of the time. Reducing the known world into Macro-China of the age, where development would still remain today.

I know so much WW2 it hurts my brain.
There was a good movie taking place during the height of the British Empire or so, about combat in Africa. I think it was either Tears of the Sun, or Feathers of the Sun. Something like that.

There are a bunch of key points in history where Civilization itself would fail had certain advancements not been made. Non-War related of course.

Like the ship. If man had never made a sturdy ship, Noah's ark probaly would have capsized.

Mongols simply because they were feared everywhere for years. The Romans got to Britain but had to stop, hence Hadrian's Wall. The Brit's got beat by a buncha farmers with pitchforks and Alexander's crumbled not long after his death.

The ottoman empire??? :rolleyes
Alexander's empire was dubbed the "Persian Empire" which was pretty darn grand. He kicked butt (even his dad) and yet maintained the culture and integrity of his conquered, hinting to a whiff of democracy. He understood he was dealing with a pluralistic society...unlike the other heathens.
to answer the question... the Egyptians:hat . it lasted the longest, contributed the most and set the standard. Everybody else were just carbon copies...that's why others tried to destroy where the acquired their info, technology, medicine, etc.
