Gloria Imperium.

I had noheard of it - it looks awesome - very very very very very very very very very very awesome.

I wonder - will you get a galactic command, choosing waht planets to attack like Rebellion??? Or do you command only battle for battle.

Either way - I think that all of us devoted TRFers should be given complimentary copies for our fanatic devotion to the movies.

I've identified such ships as the Bulwark Battlecruiser and Republic Assault Ship in those screenshots.

Okay, because I'm a nerd, and I have mad connections yo, I found out a lot of info about this game.

To answer your question, Telan, you seem to have a huge amount of freedom in the game. You can attack what you want when you want how you want, and there are no messy missions that you have to complete in order to move on. If you're stuck on Tatooine and the enemy is being a bitch, you can say fuck that g and move off to somewhere else. Its a lot like Rebellion, from what I understand. Only better.

The guys who are developing it are the guys from Petroglyph. I imagine most of those uber geeks like me who view this website just shit their pants right now, but for those who aren't, I'll explain. Petroglyph is made up of most of the original members of Westwood Studios. Westwood Studios made real time strategy. They created the Command & Conquer games, the Red Alert games, and the Dune games. They shaped the RTS industry into what it is today. Blizzard aint got shit on Petroglyph.

From what I understand, they've done away with the whole resource harvesting thing. There are still resources, and you still need them to buy shit, but from now on they apparently just flow in as long as you have control of a planet. More planets you have, more resources you have. More resources you have, more shit you got to blow other shit up that you don't like with. Its kind of like TRF.

As you probably know, there are both space battles and land battles. Apparently, if you control the space, you can send reinforcements down to take control of the land. I think. You might not need to have control of the space, but either way it would probably be a good idea. We'll see.

The space battle, while it looks chaotic, seems to be fairly organized and well thought out. There are different planes, different levels, for each type of ship. Capital ships on one plane, medium ships on another, fighters on another. Once the battle starts, though, they move between the planes, so it doesn't look shitty. In fact, the footage of the naval battles I saw were fucking ridiculous. In a good way. A very good way. It felt like I was watching Star Wars.

The actual strategy looks to be really simple and really complex, depending on which way you want to go. You can straight up run and gun and tear the shit out of anything you want, or you can be more tactful. You can personalize what you attack, such as aiming for the engines or the turbolaser banks or the ion cannons, etc. Essentially knocking out the vital parts of the ship before you blow the crap out of it completely. Or you could just try to blow the crap out of it completely with either overwhelming numbers or luck.

They seem to be going the way of Blizzard and introducing heroes into the mix. Theres Obi-Wan and Darth Vader confirmed so far, and they seemed to kick a lot of ass. I saw Vader tear the shit out of some Jawas. It was pretty sweet. They also seem to be introducing minor heroes, such as naval commanders and army generals and such, who seem to influence troops with their presence.

Theres a Death Star. And it kicks ass. You can blow the shit out of planets with it, and if you're the Rebels you have a chance to stop it. In the scene I saw, they didn't. It rocked.

The camera seems to be very easy to manipulate and control, and you can move it just about anywhere. A lot like Warcraft III, only I assume even moreso, especially in space. Also, I heard a brief mention of 'battle view', which you can activate at any time, most likely when you know you've got a battle won, and watch the battle cinematically. You know, popcorn and soda, movie theater, all that jazz. Its a toggle, so you can switch back and forth out of it at will. Kick. Ass.

Thats pretty much it. If you're a nerd and want to see for yourself, I found it all here:

Most specifically, check out Official Movie 1, Official Trailer 1. There is an Official Trailer 2, but I think its exactly the same as 1 And also, most importantly, E3 2005 GameSpot Live Stage Demo.

Thank you, and goodnight.

Just on note, Star Wars: Force Commander had a resource system like that. Let us just pray they are nearly the same in their quality :S

And if there are heroes... that means we can do a TRF Official Mod for it! Muh ha ha ha!

Who wants to see Dolash and Telan duke it out? We can even put little triggers for the OOC bitching!
