So, I've been playing Star Trek Online, captain of a Galaxy Class and Fleet Admiral of the Terran Empire... but I have to admit the game feels samey after alot of play. I was hoping for gold and got a pile of gold colored... stuff. It's in new release so maybe it will improve with time, I don't know. Hearing about my gamer friends that just completely write it off though, thats just about putting the final nail in the coffin for me.
Thats where the title of the thread comes in. I have been playing the hell out of Mass Effect 2, even bought Mass Effect 1 just to make #2 better, and I love Biowares writting and development style. It was only just pointed out to me Bioware was developing SWTOR and that makes me somewhat excited about it. It's like Blizzard riding on the tails of the warcraft RTS to put out WoW. I feel Bioware could do the same with this.
I'm just upset that it's a PC-release without any current plans, beyond rumor and speculation, to have a console (particularly Xbox 360) launch. Bioware Austin is doubtless going to have a golden egg on their hands here and just seems a terrible waste to me that they're not even going to try and port it to console (hell, we console gamers would be happy to have it even if it wasn't cross platform and we could only play with fellow 360 or PS3 owners) given that KoTOR 1 and 2 had their best sales (and continued play) on console...
However Muzyka and Zeschuk have both hinted at developing a new similarly themed RPG for launch exclusively on console so that those of us who either don't want to or cannot afford to buy a PC-Gaming Rig will not be left out in the cold.
Also, there was discussion at E3 about TOR being brought to console some time after the initial PC launch. But that's purely speculative...
The post PC console launch is usually always an option posed to large gaming companies on their MMO releases. The PC market is a saturation test based on the developed model they had used in making the game. If it works out they expand into the mediums demanded by the player base. Its a saftey net for the company if anything....
