Has anyone else read or been reading this Star Wars comic book series? I ran into a reference for it on wookiepedia when I came across the name Cade Skywalker. Apparently this series is set at around 130 years after the battle of Yavin, and deals with the descendants of our characters, and so forth.
It looks pretty interesting, but I want a second opinion from someone who's read the comics before I go off and buy them.
Dark Horse has been doing the Star Wars thing since before the dawn of time. They've got it down to a fine art. John Ostrander did most of the Republic run and a couple others, and he works with Jan Duursema on a lot of stuff.
The premise is questionable; the idea that one hundred and thirty years from now the Skywalkers still pwn the Force, still shape the galaxy and blah blah. But it does have some interesting characters, a very intriguing approach to the Empire and their inclusion of "Imperial Knights" - (Gray Jedi).
All in all it's a good read but I'd wait for the graphics.
I don't think it's that far fetched to think that a Skywalker would still be a huge influence on the Galaxy. Cade Skywalker is not that far removed from Luke Skywalker, and given that the force is genetic it's not that hard to believe.
That being said, I think they stuck with the Skywalker family mainly due to the fact that you can relate to them easily. Without ever picking up one of the comics you feel like you can relate to the Skywalker name because you know so much of their history. In older books like Knights of the Old Republic, this isn't the case, and it's harder for non-Star Wars fans to get into the comics.
It's a pretty cool series, I don't see why it has to take place so far in the future, but I like the premise. I especially like the New Sith Order they've got going.
Pardon me, I should have phrased that as "personally questionable". Truly I can sympathize, I can understand why they stuck with the Skywalker name, character branding is the hallmark of the comic book industry. That said; I had higher hopes, had hoped that they'd break from that tradition, in the style of deeply meaningful comics published in a particular genre (ie, Marvel "Powerless") and as a result I was somewhat disappointed. Furthermore - the whole idea that the Skywalker line was born and blessed of the Force has never really sat well with me personally, and the ever-lasting continuance of that line...
Anyway...
There are aspects of the series that I quite like, such as the Emperor being a force-trained fellow, his cadre of Imperial Knights, the Palleon-class Star Destroyers and, as Zell mentioned, the Sith Empire.
