I'm kind of lost here... IT seems to me everyone is taking these films in a completely different way than I. Does no one else feel that the entire film is one big parody of practically every film genre under the sun? It's not unoriginal for stealing film styles... it's making fun of all those styles by taking them to the extreme for gods sake. I didn't even think it was subtle... I mean... the endless streams of blood as if pouring from a firehose in the anime sequence... the squirting blood in the real action sequences (reminescent of the Holy Grail). It's not "something for everyone"... the ridiculousness of the film is much too extreme to be anything other than "making fun of everything". They're awesome films and I complete dug both of them (the first moreso because it seemed even more over-the-top), but I get the feeling everyone is taking it much too seriously.
