Okay, so I'm perusing the interweb, all pissed off because Kill Bill 2 is broken and doesn't play properly. I decide, it's 6 am, fuck it, I'm going to bed. Before I did, I stopped by the window to get some fresh air, figuring I might just watch some TV because I wasn't that tired.
I lean out the window and notice there is a shit load of sirens. Sounds like different sirens so I figure it's cops and fire, or fire and ambulance. Then I hear a loud bang, like a crash of somekind. I figure it's just the trains, since it was from about where the trainyard is off the highway.
And then I hear what I thought was an explosion. Then, a lot of explosions. Lots and lots of explosions. I figure maybe a car is toast, or there's a problem with a train. My dad, meanwhile, says "Hey, that sounds like gunfire."
Well, like everyone who is a rational person who has a scar on his arm from a gunfight, I did the natural thing; I got my dad to fire up the car. So with a bunch of locals we hit the highway, and by the time we drive down there the shooting is all over. We see about 10 cop cars. An ambulance, too, and for some reason a fire truck comes by and then leaves without doing anything.
There's a guy. He's in the ditch, but we can't see him. We can see the paramedics doing something with him. A car passes us. Coroner or maybe family, I dunno, but the cops stopped him and they talked, and then he went over by the body. Cops EVERYWHERE. Then as we pass by the traffic, we see a truck. Totalled. No back end whatsoever. Riddled with bullets. There are a couple more vehicles less damaged. One is missing a bumper, so I say "Road rage".
Well, according to police reports, they tried to pull this truck over, dunno what for, when it took off. It dodged a spike strip slightly up the road, and then hit a van that was about to pull out onto the highway. His truck was like I said trashed, and then he got out and from what they said, opened fire. He had chance, there were like 30 cops, and he went down after what must have been 30-40 shots. It was a three town incident, with cops from Port Moody where he was originally chased from down to Port Coquitlam past Coquitlam, where the shooting happened, and had cops from all three towns.
From what I just heard on the news, they apparently shot at him before he got in the car. I dunno why still. It's all very new and if you live in the Vancouver or B.C. area, turn on your local news now, or later, and it should be on there. Right now reports are few and far between, except they keep repeating that the road will be closed down all afternoon due to a "police matter". Some people are still calling it an unconfirmed report, but there was a camera down there so within an hour or so, there should be more extensive reports.
I'll post again later. Still, this was like a 5 minute walk from my house. Last time there was a gunfight in my neighbourhood (back in Vancouver when I was 7), we moved a month later. I'm already planning on moving out of here in a month or so, but still... fucking crazy shit. Why do insane people with guns keep having shootouts by my house?
