A heartstring puller, perhaps.
Perhaps this is as a result of the fact that there will be no commies under anybodies beds anymore, and the US has absolutely nothing to worry about in regards to an invasion of any sorts.
The right to bear arms was based on the fact that America, at that point, was in an extremely fragile position. Invasion by European powers was a distinct possibility. Nowadays, its obviously not going to happen. And who needs a machine gun to hunt game, honestly?
On another matter, the way in which the judge has handled this case is a disgrace to the US legal system. He should be stripped of his position for his decisions (i'm too lazy to point them out, i ain't writting an essay here) and his forcing of the case despite a hung jury is a miscarriage of the justice system, going entirely against the 'justice' part of that very phrase.
Sad...
The right to bear arms is supposed to be an insurance policy against a corrupt government, not the right to hunt deer. The founding fathers didn't want the country to go through what it went through with England again, guaranteeing that citizens have the right to bear arms was insurance against that.
And yes, I agree about the judge. I mean, honestly, the dude had jurors screened to make sure that they didn't know everything about their constitutional powers! Of course, the jury was rather gutless too. It's not like the judge could keep them there forever. Heck, if worse comes to worse, just have everyone take a nap in the jury room for a few hours!
If I were you, I'd be @#%$ ashamed that these asinine, sensationalist government-hater militias even exist in my country.
What happened to a vision of America where the government was a place that people came together, to work for the common goal of making their nation a greater place? God damn. This is not Dark Ages Britain. You are not living in a monarchy where the king ascends to the throne at the age of fifteen.
One day America will wake up to the fact that somewhere along the line, the Magna Carta actually took effect.
Having guns will not help you if the government comes in the middle of the night to take you away. What will help to prevent that from happening is to make government what it is supposed to be; a group of citizens working together to better their nation.
Which is not even addressing that most of these "miliatias" are pretty much breeding grounds for racism and xenophobia. The vision of America these guys see in their heads when they go to sleep at night isn't red, white and blue -- just white.

There's a reason why a lot of people are leery of our government, and the Viper trial is one of them.
Our government is as corrupt as can be.
Our government is as corrupt as can be.
Lumping the government into one section is just stupid. When a member of the judicial branch does something, what could it possibly have to do with the corruption, or lack thereof, of the executive branch? Or the legislative branch, for that matter? You can't just call a multi-level organization of thousands of people "corrupt". That makes no sense.
Everyone @#%$ and @#%$ about how the government is "all powerful" and has "turned their back on them". Aren't you the same people who elected millionaire oil tycoon and baseball team manager to office with such zeal? Aren't you the same people electing Arnold bloody Schwarzeneggar as Governor of California? Damn, man.
