Heh, my family seems to have split off into different parts everywhere. Makes it hell to travel.

Cruz, eh? Very sexy. ;)

I was born Matthias von Meillen

In moving to America I changed it to Matthew McMullen since we have had a family member...dally in ireland to put it correctly. To spare political politeness, my great great grandmother enjoyed the hospitality of an irish rebel leader during the First World War and we quietly incorporated the child of that...union...into the line. He was born a McMullen.

Ahh, yes. Interesting story about my own name; ask me about it sometime.

My grandfather met my grandmother in Stalingrad, of all places. The only other family-through-war was way back to... most would recognise it as the hundred years war, I suppose. Er, great-great-great-etc. grandad was, ah, "caught" with a French woman (another part of the family that branched off into Canada).

Man is also famous for being flogged by some higher up for indecency. Apparently, no one likes a drunk wandering naked and spouting profanities no matter what time period you're in.

I don't know that much about my own family history. From my father's side at least, it can be traced in recent times to Corydon, Indiana. From my mother's side of the family, we can trace it back to Germany. During the Great War my Mother's Father, after fighting in the Ardennnes Forest, made it to Western Germany, where he first learned of his family's history in a chat with an German citizen that knew a bit of english. It appears Bowen may be German in origin.

I knew someone while growing up, a girl in my Middle School, that had the last name of Cruz. Her first name was Katie, and I suppose she looked a little Italian.

Don't go to Spain. Italy is better. As for specific places in Italy, try maybe Venice, Toronto, Sicily.....
