Episode VII in 2015, with plans to make a Star Wars film every year or so after that.
Man...I was not really expecting this. I'm both excited and terrifying for the future of the brand. Star Wars is an IP behemoth, so I'm hopeful that if they don't run it completely into the ground with the first few movies, it'll be a lot like James Bond in the hit-and-miss respect. I think I could live with that.
Mainly, I'm just glad George at least had the foresight not to drag the brand to hell with him when he dies.
Maybe I'm just being pessimistic after seeing the franchise I loved as a child molested in more recent years (looking at you, prequels...), or maybe I just think nothing they can put out will ever live up to my unrealistic ideals, but I just fear we are going to get more Phantom Menace... when what I want is more Empire.
Perhaps I'm wrong though, and now that Lucas is taking a backseat Star Wars can be returned to its former glory.
Here is your chance, TRF! Start cranking out those screenplays! LOL
hehe $4.5 Billion dollars is not a bad nest egg... :P
I think its a good thing, but it all depends on who they hire to do the job, if they get a good script with a good director , could turn out to be the best thing that happened to it.
Unfortunately, apparently they have said no to this, a shame, another opportunity missed..
I think it's all a good thing. I've ready ROTJ was supposed to be much darker, even having Han get killed, but Lucas said 'no, no, no' to any of those ideas. And recently he got stuck making his live action series which I also see Disney attempting to try.
The only thing I fear is a Star Trek scenario where way too much is crammed down our throats. Movie after movie and a tv series... or two. I've liked it all spread out and pray Disney will not do like ten re-releases int he theaters. LOL
Plus, I just want to see Mara Jade on the big screen already too. :)
Still so many questions to be answered though... now that we know it is going to be an all-original story for Ep VII, I immediately have 20 more questions. Do we think that the story will be further ahead in the future than we have seen much, with completely new characters and story? Or will it be in the future covered by material from novels, etc? And if so, will we see re-appearing characters from the OT, and if that is the case, will we be seeing roles reprized by the original actors? Or will the movie be in the time frame covered by novels but ignoring canon in favor of a brand new take?
Ok, I think it's safe to say I'm already through the logical jaded skepticism and back into full screeching fanboy mode.
