Dug out the game and played it, wasn't really impressed by anything in particular. Now, if the Big Huge maps really were Big Huge, and if there was an option for unlimited numbers of units, then I would be impressed.

That's what Rome, Total War is going to be for.
Alpha Centuri Gue? Are you kidding?
Heh, what does your version look like...
A mate preordered Rome: Total War and got the demo. Fucking mad. The only playable battle is Trebia (Rome V the Carthaginians) as Hannibal. You can zoom down to where the people take up the whole screen, then watch them fly as you launch your elephants through them. Amazing detail, even on my low-end laptop.

Nah, not really. Although Rome Total War will have a lot of units, more even than the 15,000 allowed of Medieval: Total War, it will still be limited somewhat. The main thing I like about the Total War games is that they allow for more units by compacting them into squadrons of anywhere from 12 units to 100 units. The other thing I like is that dead bodies don't disappear, so after a battle is over, you can zoom around the map and see where all the carnage took place and how bad it was.
No reply to this, Kraker?
The research and bottom screen area looks the same....
