I play World of Warcraft, in fact, I only recently just got it. Today, there was an update, and after the update, I find that not only are a tonne of servers gone, along with all my characters, but the WoW site is down! Does anyone know why this is, or what is going on? I'm under the impression at least one other person here plays WoW, I think it's Zark.

I play WoW, but I haven't played in a couple of days: haven't been in the mood.

If my just dinged lv 21 hunter is gone...

I hope this isn't like the infamous 'Black Friday' we had on EQ2 back in december...

This will result in mass suicides.

Well I was on it not long ago so everything looks fine to me: a bunch of PvP going on though due to the new 'honor' system.

Yeah, I eventually managed to check the site, it appears they had to take down most of the servers for extra maintenance, but everything's back to normal now.

Blizzard Entertainment is having a shitload of problems keeping the servers up. They keep taking them down for 'emergency service maintnence' and shit like that. Needless to say, it has pissed off a lot of players. Believe me, I browse the WoW forums.

The important thing to do is don't panic. Even if it looks like your characters have been deleted, all is lost, and you might as well just end it right here, put the fucking gun down. Everything'll be back to normal in a few hours. And expect more of this to come until Blizzard gets its shit together, which might be a while.

Also do remember that this is the first time Blizzard has put out a game like this, thus a lot of things are completely new to them. That's something Sony has an advantage over them (even though they screw up too...*shudders at the memory of Black Friday*).

And yeah, while your toons may 'look' like they are gone, they are most likely still there. The reason is because the characters are stored on the server itself, so if it's down your characters may or may not show up at all on the character select screen until it's back up again.

WoW is very odd indeed.
