It's a natural progression from simple mounds.

No pyramids are known in Europe, and there is no evidence any ancient civilisation there ever attempted to build one.

Hmm... didn't those warring pre-Greece greeks build burial-moundish things? I seem to recall pyramid-like tombs that had many soldiers buried in them.

well the Celts and Picts all built burial mounds in Europe, so did the early Gauls I think, but they were all rounded on top. I guess you could argue that was because they were more intuned with the sun and moon than any mathematical bits that goes into building a pyramid...

if that makes any sense... I am rather tired

Basically, most of the burial mounds were made of dirt for the most part. There is rock to this pyramid and evidence it was part of a more complex funeral area back in the day. That's what makes it unique because so far nothing like that's been found in Europe.

My guess is some Egyptians came up for vacation and one of them just happened to die from something.... ;)

Well, I mean, I already found it. I just told Semir a few months ago, because, you know, he always wanted to be in the news and stuff.
