I'm hoping one of our resident computer nerds will be able to help me, though I doubt it.

I'm having a problem with AIM (aol instant messenger). It loads fine and I can see my buddy list but if I click on anyones name to try to send a message, or if someone tries to send me a message, I see this:

"AOL Instant Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

And when I click the button to view error details I see this:

"AppName: aim.exe AppVer: 5.9.3702.0 ModName: msvcr70.dll
ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 000013d6"

I have uninstalled and re-downloaded and reinstalled AIM several times and keep getting the same thing, and I've done the only thing that I'm copetent enough to know to do to fix my computer (which is run ad-aware and spyware and restart).

Anyone have any idea wtf is going on or how I can fix it?

Have you run a scan of your computer with a security/virus protection program (some are usually preloaded when you purchase a computer)?

Switch from AIM to Yahoo IM.

Switch from AIM to anything. It's Spyware'd and is lousy for dependability anyway.

I use Gaim, but sometimes wish I didn't. Then again, Trillian is there. So use Gaim.

What you're gonna need to do is run Scandisk then defragment your hard drive.

Download a copy of Trillian, and see if that works. If it does, use it. If it doesn't, then report back, because something is bad.

Reverse the polarity, that always works!
