Simple to define normality. Normality is what the majority live by. That's the very definition of the word.
So in America, the normality is to be a conservative person born of a white family and come from a broken home and to follow the Christian faith.
Now was that hard?

By definition human beings are ignorant. It will take them decades to come to terms with the fact that homosexuality isn't 'evil', and by then they'll just have something else to hate for no reason anyway. The best thing you can do is ignore it.

My friend recently started working in retail and being rude seems to be a contest to see who can be worse at it. She's a really nice sweet girl and she's got something of a small war going on with her work mates over the music that get's played in the store. She's not a pop culture fan, most of the bands she listens to I've never heard of, but apparently she's not indie enough for that crowd if whom ever she listens to has even been close to having a song on the actual radio. She's mentioned seeing her work mates openly make fun of people for what music they buy, herself included at times...
Dunno where I was going with that other than to point out I recently saw a news article saying the American public was becoming ruder and ruder by the generation. And I agree... I mean, when I was a kid, and I'm only 29, to use a swear word was something I didn't do until I was 14 or older. Now, you see kindergarteners who are worse than any sailor. No one says thank you anymore, or your welcome. I mean, I can understand alot of stuff falling out of use, like calling someone ma'am or sir. Your libel to get someone to jump down your throat for saying that to them, because they'll be damned if their old enough to be called ma'am. And visa versa.
Sorry you ran into a prick Steda :( but there's alot of folks who think that just because their day hasn't been stellar or what ever reason, it's ok to pick on someone else.

it shouldn't be alright for someone to hurl abuse at you just because you don't know them. i don't go around lambasting hetereosexuals or the homeless or asians just because they are different and say "hey, i don't know them, so it's all good".
the world makes me sick sometimes. we never learn from our mistakes and have such disgusting double standards. always just fob it off on the excuse that because the majority says something, it's a-okay.

I would be frustrated as well. A while back I was on a date and a rather rude comment was made when I decided to kiss my date after handing him his coat. I turned to see two rather large males both of whom would not have been at all out of place in varsity jackets. They proceeded to make comments about gays and myself in particular. When they had said enough that my honour felt impugned, I challanged them to a contest of wills and when they declined I called them cowards. hey agreed, we departed outside the restaurant, and I proceeded to neutralize them. I am un armed combat trained being law enforcement officer. They did not take too kindly about having their proverbial asses kicked by a fga so to speak.
Violence is not the answer - but it was my answer. Ignorance needs to be stamped out and sometimes the only way to do it is under the heel of a jackboot.
I don't recommend being too blustery if you are not sufficiently drilled in the martial *military* arts. (((not karate, I mean true martial))).
Steda, you and I have dealt with out share of idiots. They are everywhere. Rest assured we will probably not see their annihilation in our life times. All we can do is carry ourselves with dignity and fanatically defend our right of normalcy - nothing more, but nothing less that Bob and Mary receive.
Yes, going into the Army and pretending to be staright, I realize the irony of this post. So be it.

Go into the shop, buy the mag again, and take the little fucker aside and have words with him.
I'll punch someone next time I walk into a WHsmith.
Which will be next week. :)
