I just got <a href="www.fiveironfrenzy.com">Five Iron Frenzy's</a> last album, <a href="http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com/cdreviews/TheEndIsHere.asp">The End Is Here</a>.
Freaking awesome is all I can say. This is an incredibly polished and masterfully writen & played album. It also comes with a live recording of their last show, a booklet with a poignant picture-story interspersed between lyrics and images, as well as a small folder inside the jewel case.
The songs are great, ranging from silly, to serious, to touching. American Kryptonite is my current favorite, with Wizard Needs Food, Badly coming in second, or rather tying for second along with Cannonball.
Er, wait, maybe Farewell to Arms is my second favorite...
And did I mention that half of this shit is about God and Jesus? Man. I thought that the insurmountable portions cruelty and bitterness that people like me heap on people like this had wiped this sort of shamefully pseudo-rebellious yet unabashedly conservative music out of existence.
That is horribly sad and lame. Does this guy even know what poetry is supposed to be or does he just ask his pastor what to write and then scribble it down? Yes that was a very subtle criticique of secularism, for a minute there I almost thought that Five Iron Frenzy had ideas of their own that they didn't steal from every lameass Christian preacher in the world. These lyrics not only yearn for wit and craft but intelligence.
"Corporate Darwinism"? Yeah buddy you just keep telling yourself that atheism represents the side of commercialism in your capitalist, Christian United States. No no just ignore the fact that most conservatives associate godlessness with communism. Don't worry that the Republican party represents corporate interests. You just keep writing your happy songs about God and Jesus.
