I never got into Age of Empires, and by that I mean I never played any of them. Are they as good as people say? From what I understand, its like Civilization but with the playstyle of Starcraft, right? If some people on TRF started playing III, I'd think about getting it.
Well, think of AoE less as 'Civilization with StarCraft play', and more 'StarCraft play with a <time period here> skin'.
Three resources to manage, spawn peasants, build, etc. Units work in a 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' kind of get up, where one beats another type, but is weak to the third kinda deal. Unit production. There is a hero unit, this varies between another meat shield, and the core of your army depending on your race.
The expansion packs definitely make the game more interesting. That way, rather than playing as the Imperial Powers, you can play as Indian / Mesoamericans, and Asian cultures. Nice change of pace from riflemen / dragoons to Samurai / Ashigaru.
Overall, I don't really like RTS game, but AoE 3 is definitely a good one if that's your bag.
Also, Steam has a bunch of stuff on sale right now. Got BC2 on PC for $6.60 or somewhere around there. It is devouring my wallet. :(
